Job description

The QCI/CWI will maintain welding quality assurance processes and established standards in accordance with EAS  internal procedures and national code requirements. The QCI/CWI will conduct inspections and monitor the welding  activities within the EAS manufacturing facilities. The QCI/CWI will also provide oversight, pertaining to welding inspection  requirements and procedures, to the QC Inspectors assigned to the individual manufacturing locations to ensure  compliance with applicable Codes and standards. The QCI/CWI will analyze systemic welding process problems and take  actions to correct within his authority. The QCI/CWI will prepare and conduct related training for employees as requested  by management.  

Job responsibilities:  

  • Conduct/supervise welding qualification testing in accordance with ASME Section IX and / or AWS D1.1 requirements. 
  • Identify problems, recommend solutions to address recurring welding quality issues  
  • Work closely with management and supervision to instill quality into our employees  
  • Maintain welder qualification records using purchased software and/or in-house tracking system 
  • Conduct welding inspection prior, during and after welding in accordance with applicable codes and standards 
  • Coordinate scheduling of non-destructive testing by outside contractors  
  • Assist Quality Control Inspectors with inspections and testing in areas other than welding as time allows, or as needs  arise. This may include, but is not limited to, equipment verifications, electrical testing, pipe pressurization testing,  product performance testing, final assembly inspections, etc. 

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: 

  • This position requires a minimum of high school diploma. Associate degree in welding technologies is a plus 
  • Certified Welding Inspector Certification is required  
  • A minimum of 3 years of inspection in pipe or structural fabrication, or as approved by Quality Manager 
  • Experience with quality assurance / quality control is desirable.  
  • This position will be supported by on-the-job training and continued education training 

JOB REQUIREMENTS/SPECIAL SKILLS: 

  • Possess and maintain Certified Welding Inspector certification  
  • Good documentation and communication (written and oral) skills  
  • Personal computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, BlueBeam Revu, Gmail, Cloud-based server use) 
  • An advanced understanding of product design and operation  
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes  
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership skills, coaching, and problem solving  
  • Willingness to accept every challenge to meet product specifications and client requirements 
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects, people and functions  
  • Skilled in plant safety and construction requirements  
  • Knowledge of ANSI/AISC Specification for Structural Steel Buildings, Chapter N (Quality Control and Quality  Assurance)
