- The Surgical First Assistant assists physicians in surgery and may perform specific significant surgical tasks under professional supervision. The RNFA collaborates with the surgeon in performing a safe operation with optimal outcomes for the patient. The RNFA practices perioperative care and must have acquired the necessary specific knowledge, skills and judgment.
- The RNFA meets departmental standard for professional accountability.
- Obtains at least 100 continuing education credits, 30 of which must be in the advanced category within a 6 year time-frame
- Provides age appropriate care, as evidenced by completion of age specific competency checklist
- Demonstrates competency in technical skills by completion of applicable core and annual skills checklists and tests
- Demonstrates competency in critical thinking skill as evidenced by performance in critical / emergency situations and application of Standards and Recommended Practices of Perioperative Nursing related to technical skill level
- Florida RN license
- Completion of RNFA technology program; Completion of an assisting course.
- One year experience as RNFA or current staff member obtaining RNFA. Training obtained under preceptor ship from surgeons; Documentation of a minimum of 150 surgical cases within the defined specialty area
- BLS, ACLS certifications required. Current credentialing as a certified first assistant.

The joint replacement program offers robotic-arm assisted partial knee and total hip replacement surgeries.TGH Brooksville is designated as an Accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention) TGH Spring Hill features a Level II neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
