Description
Job Summary:
As a member of the Metabolic Center, participates in the diagnosis, treatment and supportive care of patients with endocrine and metabolic disorders and any others as defined by the Collaborative agreement the NP has with the collaborating physician.
In addition to seeing patients in the outpatient setting, the APN will also participate in in-patient management, evaluating new consults, follow-up with existing patients, order tests/treatments, and participate in discharge planning as directed by the supervising physician.
The APN will take inpatient and outpatient call with the physician, but not in lieu of the physician.This position is involved in a team-based approach to care.
Team members are trained to meet the highest level of function for their role as per the State of Tennessee/Georgia guidelines.
Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to coordinate care for patients and is trained and assigned to support patients/families/caregivers in self-management, self-efficacy and behavior change.
Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to manage the practices' patient population. Participates in the practice's quality improvement process and performance evaluation.Education:
Required:
RN with a Master's Degree in nursing and certification in family and/or adult nurse practitioner. Graduate accredited school of nursing.
De-escalation training, if applicable
Preferred:
Prefer Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
Experience:
Required:
Two years experience as an RN.
Preferred:
Two years experience on medical/surgical unit or ICU; Minimum of three years experience in a physician office setting preferred
Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration
Required:
Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee. Eligibility to sit for certification in area of specialty. BLS prior to going to the unit/ department and maintained going forward
The Nurse Licensure Compact will not change how to obtain or renew a Tennessee license. However, the Tennessee nursing license will be a single state license for Tennessee Residents or non-compact state residents.
Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents.
Preferred:
Certification in areas of specialty preferred.
Department Position Summary:
A nurse practitioner in Metabolic Center will work under direction of the physicians/medical director. He/She will be responsible for developing evidence-based protocols and utilizing them to develop an individualized plan of care. He/She must be able to collect, document, and analyze patient data.
They must be able to collaborate with the health care team in the development and implementation of testing and treatment according to protocols.
He/She must participate in community and corporate education on endocrine and metabolic topics.
The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over their life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status.
He/She must interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures.
This is done through evaluation of direct supervisor by direct observation, in a skills lab, or discussed verbally or written.
Competency can also be evaluated by a formal peer review process and/or by self assessment based on objective criteria that is reviewed and validated.
