    Summary

  • The Medical Director of Psychiatry at MMC Sanford Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) is responsible for assisting the MBH VP of Medical Affairs in the development and coordination of the medical/clinical philosophy of Intensive Services.
  • The Medical Director also helps identify staff improvements in clinical care.
  • The Medical Director will be expected to assist in identifying methods and ways of effectively combining psychiatric and behavioral resources of member organizations.
  • The Medical Director provides the leadership and oversight to the multidisciplinary teams in the treatment of patients and is responsible for quality and safety within the clinic system.
  • The Medical Director supervises the Physicians and APPs who provide acute behavioral health inpatient care, ECT services and Psychiatric Consults.
  • The Medical Director also provides direct care to a panel of complex patients in a multidisciplinary model, including nursing, psychiatry, social work, case management.
  • In addition to liberal administrative activities, the Medical Director collaborates with leaders across the MaineHealth system for continuity of patient care.
  • The MMC Sanford BHU Psychiatric Medical Director will join other Maine Behavioral Healthcare regional medical directors in quality improvement and access initiatives toward a consistent team-based approach to care for the MaineHealth system.
  • This position involves teaching and mentoring medical students from University of New England School of Medicine, with the opportunity of academic appointment.

  • Desired Qualifications & Experience:

  • Graduate from accredited school of medicine and board eligible in the field of Psychiatry.
  • Current and valid licensure as a physician by the Maine Board of Licensure in Medicine or eligible.
  • 5+ years of experience practicing psychiatry along with administrative/management experience preferred.
  • High degree of technical skills, evidence of leadership qualities, and strong organizational skills are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Demonstrate an expertise in management of patient care, direct clinical supervision, and general medication administration.
  • Current DEA Registration Certificate.
  • Meet other credentialing criteria defined in Medical Staff By-laws.
  • Physically and mentally able to perform the requirements of the position, including sufficient mobility to move through the facility.
