Job Title: Inpatient Medical Coder at Memorial Healthcare System

Summary: Utilizing an electronic medical record and computerized encoder to assign and sequence diagnosis and procedure codes, and present on admission indicators for inpatient encounters based on medical record documentation following official coding guidelines, CMS regulations, and HIM policies.

Detailed Responsibilities:

Reviews inpatient medical records to assign and sequence diagnosis and procedure codes following official guidelines.
Validates accuracy of Admission-Discharge-Transfer (ADT) data fields.
Addresses coding edits and needed corrections promptly.
Formulates physician queries and requests clinical validation.
Meets MHS coding quality and productivity standards.
Attends educational meetings to maintain certification.
Maintains patient confidentiality.
Performs other requested duties.

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent

Credentials: Coding Certification

Education Equivalent Experience: Focused education of hospital-based coding

Required Work Experience: Three (3) years inpatient coding experience in a hospital setting or a graduate of the MHS coder intern program. Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).
