    Duties


    • You will prepare, coordinate, and conduct training, both academic and hands on.
    • You will revise and adapt daily lesson plans, develop visual aids and handouts, and/or obtain training materials to accomplish training plan.
    • You will provide demonstrations and summaries of lessons.
    • You will develop, administer, and evaluate examinations to test and measure progress of apprentice.
    • You will schedule and coordinate on-the-job training with various shops

    • This is a bargaining unit position.
    • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
    • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current CDL license.
    • Must possess a National Center for Construction Education and Research craft instructor certification or obtain within six months of entering the position and renew every three years.
    • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.
    • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases

    Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Repairing high voltage power generating and distributing equipment (e.g

    generators, transformers, switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments, and control systems); 2) Reading circuit drawings and diagrams to identify electrical problems; 3) Using high voltage test tools (e.

    oscillators, meggers, phase sticks, and fault finding equipment); 4) Installing transformers, capacitors, insulators, switches, circuit breakers and fuses for main distribution lines over 600V; and 5) Using safety equipment such as hot sticks, rubber blankets, and insulated gloves when working on high voltage systems

    Physical Effort:
    Works above ground from aerial bucket trucks and poles, at ground level, and in trenches, or manholes
    Performs moderately heavy lifting, pulling, and carrying of equipment and material weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally, lifts or pulls heavy cables and equipment weighing more than 50 pounds with help of weight handling equipment or assistance from other workers
    Uses block and tackle, pulleys, or other lifting devices
    Work may involve long periods of crouching, climbing, bending, standing, kneeling, and stooping while installing, repairing, or testing electrical equipment in confined spaces
    May work above ground from aerial bucket trucks and poles, at ground level, and in trenches, or manholes

    Working Conditions:
    Works indoors and outdoors
    May be exposed to danger from explosions of equipment and cables in manholes and vaults, as well as danger from high voltage electrical shock, burns from solder, broken bones, cuts, and bruises
    May be exposed to heat and noise when working in substations or power-generating facilities, to extremes of weather when working outdoors, and to unpleasant odors and wet slippery surfaces when working in manholes
    May be subject to electrical burns while working around high voltage electrical lines, broken bones from falls from poles, and strains from awkward work positions
    May be exposed to chemicals such as insulation oil from transformers and oil switches
    May be required to wear protective devices such as earplugs, safety hats, and nonconductive gloves and footwear
