    Requirements

    The Plant Engineer will oversee the maintenance and lifecycle management of all building and facility systems and lead all Capital Projects from the approval process through closure.

    The Plant Engineer will work on projects related to site, facility, production assets, safety, quality, and productivity initiatives to achieve cost reductions, yield optimization, reliability improvements and customer solutions.

    Duties will include, but not limited to:
    Essential Functions
    a. Prepare requests for capital funding including budgeting, timelines, and financial justification
    b. Negotiate equipment and contracted service purchases
    c. Manage vendors and contractors through receipt of deliverables
    d. Lead the Change Management process per project
    e. Manage day to day project execution
    f. See projects to closure
    With support from the maintenance department, oversee all aspects of building, grounds, and facilities to include:
    b. Process and building HVAC systems
    c. Process heating and cooling systems
    f. Exterior landscaping and snow removal
    g. Roofing systems
    h. Utility systems and usage

    • Participate in Safety Teams to lead continuous improvement initiatives throughout the organization.
    • Collaborate with Maintenance, Quality and Operations teams to lead process upgrades including integration of automation and technology.
    • Develop manufacturing methods, labor utilization standards, and cost analysis systems to promote efficient crew and facility utilization. Optimize use of floor space, materials, personnel, and equipment. Analyze workstation designs for ergonomic compliance.
    • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, including tracking project costs and gathering data from internal and external sources.
    • Analyze existing operations and propose cost-justified improvements. Develop work simplification methods and job aids. May perform design on special projects as needed.
    • Identifies and qualifies vendors, suppliers, contractors, service providers. Obtains competitive bids when warranted and negotiates contract amounts. Monitor vendor and contractor performance for safety, quality, productivity, and value. Monitor and approve invoices and other payments once goods and services are delivered and completed based on agreed-upon requirements.
    • Develop scopes of work and prepare project budgets and cost estimates according to the project requirements for safety, quality, mechanical and electrical integrity, schedule, timing, and budget.
    • Responsible for completion of projects as assigned. Ensure that coordination and regular communication of overall project occurs between all involved in the planning and execution of company projects. Advises management of any project delays or budget challenges and identifies alternate actions to maintain schedules and budgets.
    • Perform factory acceptance tests, induced failure tests, commissioning and decommissioning activities, and new process start-up leadership.
    • Plan, organize, and direct activities concerned with the construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, and systems.
    • Perform other duties as required.

    Education and/or Experience
    Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Chemical, or other engineering/technology discipline
    Three (3) years of engineering or project management experience in a manufacturing environment.

    Communication Skills:
    Good listener, able to present complicated topics in a clear way both written and verbally, engaging in discussions, basic negotiation skills, interaction with internal maintenance staff, operators, supervisors, management, contractors, and outside engineering resources

    Interpersonal skills:
    team player, respectful, request and offer assistance as necessary

    Technical skills:
    good understanding of project management and engineering methodologies
    Optimistic, positive attitude in recognizing challenges and finding solutions
    Preferred
    Strong foundation in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, mass/material balance and process design
    Five (5) years' experience in a food manufacturing environment
    Basic financial knowledge
    Good understanding of LEAN concepts, maintenance and reliability of assets, practical use and understanding of AutoCAD and MS Project
    Sanitary design experience
    Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    Will have a thorough knowledge of technical project engineering/management methods, associated with manufacturing facilities
    Understands and ensures regulatory compliance and works collaboratively with: OSHA, EPA, USDA, FDA, local fire/police/health/utility departments, Weights and Measures, and other regulatory/governmental agencies
    Must possess solid analytical skills in developing continuous improvement initiatives, cost reductions, waste elimination methods, improvements, and safety practices.
    Familiar with Lean manufacturing principles.
    This position requires that the person be a highly organized, self-motivated individual who can work independently
    Must have strong leadership skills, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
    Strong interpersonal skills requiring the ability to resolve conflicting interests and obtain collaboration.
    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations in a fast-paced environment.
    Computer literacy regarding MS Suite of products, AutoCAD, etc.
    Language Skills
    Ability to speak, read, and comprehend English. Analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, customers, vendors and other employees of the organization.
    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

    Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

    Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
