Job DescriptionOur client is seeking well-qualified candidates for the role of Senior Metallurgist.The Senior Metallurgist will supervise and plan the metallurgical aspects of the process; conduct analysis to identify and implement continual improvement activities; and represent the company with our customers, suppliers, and certifying agencies.
This position will work MondayEssential Functions:
Ensure product conforms to all customer required metallurgical properties.
Write manufacturing plans for customer approval, which define required processing parameters.
Ensure all products shipped meet the requirements of the approved manufacturing plans.
Define forging temperatures, heat treat process and testing as required by customer specifications.
Analyze test data and adjust processing parameters as required to ensure continuing conformance to customer requirements.
Maintain "external" customer relationship for communication of technical issues, resolution of product issues. This includes similar contact concerning technical issues with raw material suppliers.
Identify and report metallurgical deviations with corrective action to disposition effected product and identify the product within all necessary data/quality systems.
Performs periodic audits of Supplier Quality Systems to assure continued supplier conformance to the quality system requirementsUses Statistical Process Control (SPC), Advanced Quality Process (AQP) tools and metrics, proactively identifies and implements improvements to supplier quality processesDetermines need for and selects equipment to support the lab functionAssist with scheduling and directing the materials lab staffPerforms or assigns analysis of material or transformative processing defectsMaintain quality improvement and industry standards.
Conduct metallurgical failure analysis as needed.Provide materials engineering support to operations and equipment.
Required Qualifications:
BS in Material Sciences, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or other closely related disciplineFive or more years of relevant experience in a manufacturing operationExperience in or with a steel mill is strongly preferredMust be able to read micro-structure,Experience with induction hardening and normalizing furnaces is preferredLeadership experience is preferred but not requiredAbility to collect and analyze metallurgical dataContinuous improvement mindsetSalary and Benefits Salary Range - $115,000 - $125,000Life, Health, Dental and Vision insurancePaid time off401kRelocation assistance is available for this role
