Job Description:
Sensory lab technician responsible for preparing samples for sensory panels, make the samples, weigh out ingredients, put samples into cups, label the samples. Manage the sensory panelist profiles, quizzes in database, manage the prizes for the panelist in the database. Clean up lab after each panel session.
Organize and administer multiple aspects of sensory descriptive, discrimination, and affective tests for food and food ingredient research applying defined methodologies designed by sensory scientists while ensuring a high standard of scientific integrity. The job scope includes ensuring compliance to detailed testing protocols, appropriate test set-up and execution, and data management.
Prepare ingredients, packaging, equipment, products, and references for routine consumer and/or sensory tests under direct supervision
Record incoming products/chemicals, label products, and place samples in appropriate storage locations.
Serve taste panels ensuring tests are conducted error free
Label sample cups and prepare serving supplies for panel testing
Inform supervisor of personnel, facility, and supply needs to accomplish projects and perform essential duties
Operate necessary equipment as required in assigned projects
Maintain a clean work environment including assigned product/equipment storage areas.
Maintain training, project, laboratory, and experimental records
Comply with appropriate SOPs and methods, and established policies and procedures
Work as a team with all staff to accomplish position and business objectives
Interface effectively with clients, consumers, consultants, service providers, and temporary workers
Ensure that all safety guidelines and procedures are followed as safety of our employees is a primary responsibility
Other tasks as assigned which may include cleaning product/equipment storage areas, shopping, packaging and shipping products to other testing sites
Actively apply new protocols and/or tools to collect and analyze sensory and consumer data
Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition, Biology, etc.
Previous laboratory experience; could be from undergraduate lab coursework.
Ability to use analytical balances, weigh out samples, test pH, etc.
Basic knowledge in sensory evaluation or interest in food science is preferred
Basic knowledge of statistics and experimental design
Strong attention to detail
Familiarity with Excel
