South Port is New Zealand's southernmost commercial deep water port offering a full range of marine services and logistics and warehousing solutions.

The Port is adynamic, complex and high-risk work environment, and 'Safety First' underpins everything we do.
We're on the hunt for an experienced Health & Safety Manager to lead our Health & Safety Team.

This role reports to the People & Safety Manager and works closely alongside our Executive Leadership Team to shape a port-wide culture where the number one priority is to ensure our people get home safe and well at the end of each day.

We're after a strategic thinker with experience identifying and managing critical risks, developing policies and procedures, and reviewing and improving safety systems and processes.

This is a hands-on management role and our ideal candidate will be comfortable switching between strategic and tactical agendas.

You will provide visible safety leadership and guidance to our wider leadership team and frontline leaders to ensure systems, processes and initiatives are embedded across the whole port.

Its a given that you will have strong technical skill and knowledge, as well as demonstrated capability for problem solving, decision making, sound judgment and assertiveness.

And because the key to success is 'connecting' with our people, you'll need to be collaborative and have great communication and inter-personal skills to build trust and rapport with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience
3+ years' proven experience in a safety leadership role
Relevant Tertiary qualifications (eg NEBOSH, Post Grad or Diploma)
Expert understanding and practicable knowledge of HSWA 2015
On the ground exposure to safety sensitive workplaces
Incident Management training at an ICAM level (or equivalent)
Experience in policy development and review

Port sector experience is an advantage, but not essential as extensive on-job training and familiarisation with port operations will be included in the initial onboarding phase.
