    Job Summary

    The Vo-Tech Student Electrical Technician will assist, under supervision, with maintaining, troubleshoot and repair in a safe, efficient, and productive manner on a variety of electrical equipment required for mining and plant operations.

    Job Description

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Visibly support and champion Peabody's Mission and Values.
  • Act in accordance with and adhere to Safety as a Way of Life Management System.
  • Assist with troubleshooting, designing, installing and repairing electronic systems and circuits.
  • Assist with programming and troubleshooting PLC's.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and maintaining DC control systems.
  • Assist with installing electrical circuits, services, controls in an industrial environment in accordance with CFR 30 and NEC.
  • Assist with installing, repairing and maintaining high voltage equipment, (transformers, powerline, trail cable, breakers and sub-stations). This also includes repair, installation and troubleshooting on overcurrent relays, under voltage relays, ground detection relays and ground monitor relays
  • Assist with repairing and removing motors, DC generators, capacitors and transformers. (Change out rotors, field coils, armatures and bearings).
  • Experience the different control systems on mobile mining equipment (Draglines, Shovels, Electric Trucks and Loaders).
  • Conduct safety observations and complete safety interactions monthly.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Company.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enrolled in A.A.S Electrical Technology or Industrial Electricity program.
  • Knowledge of electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Knowledge of CRF30 and NEC.
  • Knowledge of control systems on mobile mining equipment.
  • Knowledge of electrical construction techniques.
  • Ability to work in all types of weather conditions and at different times of day.
  • Physical Requirements

    SURFACE ENVIRONMENT

  • Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift
  • Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
  • Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders
  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
  • Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination
  • Must have the ability to lift/raise 10 – 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the work shift
  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area
  • Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays)
