    What Your Job Will Be Like:

    We are seeking a Intern Year Round - R&D Undergraduate

    On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Prepare materials (sample substrates, buffers, reaction solutions, ceramic powders, epoxy mixtures etc.) and perform chemical and material synthesis for experimental study,
  • Perform experiments to test and characterize various materials using a range of techniques including FTIR, impedance measurements, UV-vis.
  • Assist in general laboratory upkeep and maintenance
  • The Electronic, Optical, and Nano Materials Department is seeking a summer undergraduate research intern to work in a multidisciplinary materials research laboratory. This opportunity will involve hands-on training in a materials chemistry laboratory that explores the interfaces between chemistry, biochemistry, and materials science. Successful candidates will have a strong academic background with a major in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related field. In addition, candidates should be self-motivated, independent workers with excellent oral and written communication skills. The abilities to follow directions and to work well with others, often as a part of a team, are important qualities. Although previous laboratory experience is not a requirement, familiarity with basic laboratory practices is desirable. Specific research-related activities will include general laboratory maintenance, materials preparation (sample substrates, buffers, reaction solutions, wet chemical synthesis, ceramic powders, filled epoxy substrates etc.), and performance of experiments to test and characterize various materials.

    Due to the hands-on nature of the work, applicants must live within commuting distance of Sandia National Labs., Albuquerque

    Qualifications We Require:

    You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program
  • Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
  • U.S. citizenship
