    The Executive Director position is responsible for the comprehensive leadership, vision, supervision and daily administration and operations of the Office of Counseling Services at High Point University. The selected candidate will also be responsible for development and implementation of all policies and procedures for the Office of Counseling Services.

    Qualifications:

    Education:

  • Master of Education Level with concentration in Counseling and Human Development from a CACREP-accredited program.
  • Experience and Training:

  • Required North Carolina Board Licensure as Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor, in good standing, with no gaps in licensure and no Board sanctions.
  • Minimum of 5 years leadership experience as a Director or an Assistant Director in a college/university counseling center, which included budgetary management, strategic planning, and grant writing preferred.
  • Clinical supervisory expertise for clinical practicum students, clinical interns, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associates, Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associates, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, and Licensed Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Ability:

  • Knowledge of broad range of personal counseling theories, diagnostic formulation, and treatment intervention
  • Knowledge of laws and ethics in the fields of Counseling, Social Work, and Psychiatry
  • Knowledge of and compliance with State and Federal confidentiality and privacy regulations, including the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics, Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Title IX, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) regulations
  • Training and experience in NaBITA threat/violence risk assessment and suicidal/homicidal risk assessment, Looking Glass, SIVRA-35, and VRAWW and ERIS.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative team-building skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook), System Administration of Titanium Schedule (electronic health record system), Cisco AnyConnect Virtual Private Network (VPN), WebEx, Skype for Business, Blackboard Collaborate, WordPress, Canva, Hootsuite, Instagram
  • Experience as a Principal Investigator for grants and IRB study protocols
  • Experience working with Research and Sponsored Projects for grant development, implementation, measurement, and reporting
  • Specialized advanced training and certification in the treatment of disordered eating, adverse childhood experiences, interpersonal violence prevention, strangulation identification and prevention, substance abuse and addiction, and trauma-informed care
  • Experience in Collegiate Recovery for the development and implementation of programs and services for students with substance use disorders and their allies
  • Experience writing Memorandums of Understanding with community partners for crisis response
  • Ability to design, collect, analyze and assimilate relevant data in order to determine needs and establish attainable goals for the department
  • Integrate advocacy to meet the mental health needs of marginalized populations
  • Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the administration, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Office of Counseling Services for the University and the overall delivery of clinical services, outreach, and prevention programs to meet the mental health needs of matriculated undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Provides leadership and vision for mission, needs assessment, strategic planning, annual goal setting, data collection, program evaluation, data-driven decision making, assessment of direct clinical operations and services, outreach programming, and training by the department
  • Ensures effective practices for triage, intake, scheduling, and documentation as the Senior System Administrator for the electronic health record system, Titanium Schedule, of all clinical documentation and scheduling, including individual clinical encounters, therapy, consultations, and support groups. Responsible for monthly system updates, generation of reports, development of templates and data forms, and purging of records according to state laws to ensure compliance and smooth service delivery.
  • Establishes, formulates, reviews, and updates policies and procedures in written manual format, with annual revisions and collaboration with functional areas in the University, to support staff and student needs.
  • Administrates and manages a multi-line departmental fiscal budget to provide for office supplies, professional development, print materials, dues/subscriptions/memberships, travel/conferences, and contracted-professional psychiatric services.
  • Oversees Wellness Initiative Fund to select, develop, and manage specific student-focused mental health and wellness programs, outreach activities, and prevention programming/trainings. Submits Executive Summary of Wellness Initiative to Director of Planned Giving/Institutional Advancement. Meets with donor families to review fund administration/implementation, upon request.
  • Supports professional development activities and participates in appropriate continuing education and training activities with clinical staff to maintain State Board licensure, clinical competency, and enhancement of knowledge and skills in areas pertinent to the position and based on program goals to meet the psychological and mental healthcare needs of the students.
  • Directly supervises all Licensed Clinical Counselors and Clinical Social Workers, Addictions Specialist, Prevention Specialist, Administrative Assistant, and contracted psychiatric provider including hiring, firing, disciplining, scheduling, training, assigning work, and ensuring completion of assigned responsibilities.
  • Develops and administers protocol to provide critical incident stress services in the event of a death of a student or other large-scale mental health crisis.
  • Develops and administers protocol to provide supports, services, and accommodations for sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, and stalking complainants and respondents.
  • Administrates collection and maintenance of data through Titanium Schedule system and in collaboration with the Center for Collegiate Mental Health. Prepares and submits Office of Counseling Services report, mid-year report, and annual report in addition to periodic analysis and reporting on developmental programs, operations, clinical utilization, strategic plans, and goals.
  • Ensures compliance for all staff engaged in research involving bioethics and human subject research with the Collaborative IRB Training Initiative.
    • Serves as Principal Investigator for Collegiate Recovery Grant, Governor's Emergency Education Relief Grant, and NCHEW Grant.
  • Directs the development of all marketing efforts including traditional and electronic media, to deliver information of services, program events, targeted mailings, posters, brochures and other promotional activities.
  • Develops and maintains memorandums of understanding with community mental health partners, including local emergency departments, magistrates, and inpatient behavioral health facilities to ensure smooth referral processes for stepping to higher levels of care, care outside the scope of the practice of our clinicians, and for discharge planning, as appropriate.
  • Member of the Behavioral Intervention/Threat Assessment Team and CARE Team and collaborates regularly and as needed with other University officials in situations requiring emergency management and/or behavioral threat assessment and intervention.
  • Conducts thorough and research-based violence risk assessments to prevent threats to individuals, the campus community, and rampage mass casualty attacks using a structured interview to classify risk into low, moderate, and high categories. Must hold or obtain certification by the National Behavioral Intervention Team Association (NaBITA) for use of threat assessment tools, including the Structured Interview for Violence Risk Assessment- 35 items (SIVRA35), Looking Glass (Written Word Risk Assessment), ERIS (Extremist Risk Intervention Scale), and Risk Rubric. Training by the Alliance for HOPE International for risk assessment.
  • Directs multidisciplinary disordered eating team of behavioral health, medical, nutritional, and athletic professionals to evaluate best practices and make recommendations for students seeking services for disordered eating.
  • Provides support for students seeking withdrawals or leaves of absences and coordinates care when appropriate with the Office of Accessibility Resources and Support for students seeking accommodation requests for mental health concerns.
  • Coordinates and supports clinical internship placements in the Office of Counseling Services for professional students from area graduate programs.
  • Oversees maintenance of the Office of Counseling Services website. Proficient in Wordpress.
  • Oversees support for the student employee Outreach Assistant, under the supervision of the Clinical Counselor/Prevention Specialist.
    • Oversees the Harm Reduction Committee, chaired by the Addictions Specialist, including the submission of the Biennial Report for compliance with Drug-Free Schools and Campus Regulations (EDGAR Part 86) Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Certification.
  • Oversees the multidisciplinary trauma-informed/resilience-oriented team consisting of clinical staff, faculty, and students.
  • Serves on the University Climate Assessment Committee, which evaluates the results of a University community survey and completes a biennial report, including recommendations for continued improvement toward a climate of health and wellness
