**Description**
**POSITION SUMMARY:**
Responsible for planning, organizing and implementing the company Safety Program, may be the lead safety manager on a project, may have other safety managers reporting directly to him or her may manage multiple projects and will demonstrate the abilities of a Safety Manager III with progressively increasing responsibility and authority.
**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:**
Work as a leader in the job site safety department, functioning under the authority and direction of the EHS Leadership while providing active leadership for Safety Managers I & II
Set exemplary standards of ethics and stewardship of the companys resources, support company philosophy, practice and goals, function as a team player and help to maintain good communication with the Safety Department
Assist in identifying workplace safety hazards and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize them. Document actions on daily activity report
Spend 50% of the time in the field and if unable, communicate this to the EHS Leadership
Implement the Corporate EHS Program effectively as evidenced by scorecards over 90%
Review and assist in writing, organizing and implementing the jobsite safety plans
Understand, implement and oversee the practice of lockout/tagout procedures in a safe manner
Work directly with the Site Manager and the management team to develop and implement and maintain an effective site-specific safety plan
Provide a level of Safety Leadership that creates enthusiasm and participation among management and craft workers, resulting in excellent safety performance
Assist in organizing and reviewing performance of the Wanzek injury management program. Set up a working relationship with a local physician, explaining the Wanzek philosophy of managing accidents.
Communicate between Wanzek and client management regarding safety matters
Plan and implement a Hazard Communication Program (GHS) in compliance with federal, state, and Wanzek policies, including a hazardous materials list, MSDS file, container labeling, employee training, and subcontractor communications
Coordinate, assist in the development, and present safety training to support Wanzek and client requirements, including planning, documentation, and presentation to include: New Hire Orientation, Fall Protection, Confined Space, Lockout/Tagout, Respiratory, etc.
Attend the weekly general safety meeting, weekly supervisors safety meeting, and daily Gangbox meetings, as required
Manage the site participation in the jobsite R4 Safety Committee
Review safety program documentation, record keeping, posting, permitting, and regulatory compliance documentation
Coordinate with Corporate Safety Department on overall program, project training needs, injury management, citation management, OSHA/MSHA reporting requirements, and other applicable matters
Maintain jobsite first aid and emergency response supplies
Administer drug and alcohol policy on site which includes specimen collection
Implement the company environmental program and perform weekly inspections as required
Understand all environmental permitting regulations and measures to ensure compliance
Participate in job site audits
Monitor the site requirements for required permitting
Provide assistance in the mentoring of Safety Managers I & II
Assist in Project Management Safety Awareness Training
Review case management on incident reports
**EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:**
Minimum of 5 years of construction experience managing safety or a related field and have demonstrated the ability to provide a high level of safety leadership to both management and craft workers
4-year degree in Safety or related field is desired
CHST or higher BSCP certification within six months of acceptance
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:**
Take reasonable care of your own and others health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward Wanzeks Zero Injury principles
Functional computer skills and knowledge of the MS word, PPT and excel
Able to make power point presentations and spreadsheets as required to manage the safety program
Write reports with accuracy and appropriate grammar
Communication with all employees
Oversee and manage all aspects of a safety program on highly complex industrial projects, demonstrating exceptional management and leadership abilities
Knowledge of MSHA/OSHA regulations and hazard recognition, record keeping and injury management skills, and written and verbal communication skills
CPR/First Aid certification, on-the-job experience managing a project safety program, and training experience
Certification as an OSHA, MSHA instructor is preferred.
Commit to working towards Professional certification (CHST, CMSP, etc.)
