    As the Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN), you will be a vital member of a dynamic team responsible for diagnosing responses to actual or potential health problems and for providing basic emergent, supportive, and restorative care through use of the nursing process.     Summary of Responsibilities
    • Accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients in our Emergency Department
    • Assesses the health status of patients/families by means of comprehensive health history and physical examination
    • Initiates selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examination, interprets findings, and alters plan of care according to collaborative practice agreement and protocols in designated area
    • Educates and counsels in the areas of health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses
    • Documents findings and plan of care in the patient's medical record
    • Consults with physician per established Day Kimball Hospital policy
    • Intervenes to provide a safe environment and evaluates effectiveness of intervention for patients

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Ability to recognize unsafe and life-threatening situations and how to intervene appropriately
    • Demonstrated skills in critical thinking, effective communication, organizational skills, problem solving, and ability to make appropriate independent decisions
    • Working knowledge of applicable Standards of Practice
    • Demonstrated compassionate customer service and ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues
    • Solid foundation in evaluating plans of care and reformulating as necessary

    Qualifications
    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing is required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred
    • Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of Connecticut is required
    • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification or equivalent is required; if not currently certified, must obtain within three (3) months of employment
    • Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area
