    Description
    Under the direct supervision of theDirector, the RN Emergency Department is responsible for deliveryof cost effective, quality patient care, utilizing case managementprinciples, the nursing process and knowledge from various healthcare disciplines. The RN is responsible for providing nursing careto adult, geriatric, adolescent and pediatric patients based onestablished standards of nursing care, by managing assignedpersonnel and by collaborating with members of other health caredisciplines.
    • CompletesEmergency Department assessment data based upon patients arrival,inclusive of psychosocial, educational and age specificneeds.
    • Reviews and documents care and dischargegoals with physician and patient andfamily.
    • Accurately administers and documentsIVs and medications according to established standards of care andpolicies and procedures.
    • Accurately interveneswhen changes in a patient's condition occur and documents nursinginterventions and patients responses in accordance withpolicy.
    • Assigns/delegates appropriate patientcare activities to other nursing staff based on patient needs andskill level/qualifications of staffmembers.
    • Provides appropriate care for allegedrape/sexual assault victims utilizing established EDprotocols.
    • Demonstrates ability to initiateappropriate community referral for patients andfamilies.
    • Follows system and departmentpolicies and procedures with special attention to attendance andpunctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge,and safety.
    • Completes mandatory education andtraining in order to maintain organization and department specificcompetencies and requirements. Maintains applicablecertification/licensure. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) andAdvanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Must obtain and maintainPediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within three months ofemployment/transfer.

    Education:

    • Graduatefrom an accredited school of nursing BSNpreferred.

    Certifications:

    • Currentlicense as a registered nurse in the state of Ohio. Maintainscurrent Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support(ACLS). Must obtain and maintain Pediatric Advanced Life Support(PALS) within three months ofemployment/transfer.

    Complexity ofWork:

    • Maintains competenciesspecific to patient populationserved.


    WorkExperience:

    • Two yearsemergency room experience preferred, or candidates with relevantcritical care experience may beconsidered.

    PhysicalRequirements:

    • Requires fullrange of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manualand finger dexterity, and eye-handcoordination.
    • Requires standing and walking forextended periods of time.
    • Requires correctedvision and hearing to normal range.
    • Requiresworking under stressful conditions and irregularhours.
    • Exposure to communicable diseases and/orbody fluids.
    • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of forcefrequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of forceconstantly to move objects.
    • Physical Demandrequirements are in excess of those for LightWork.
