    BACKGROUND:

    QAI laboratories is a testing, inspection and certification organization providing services to manufacturers of Electrical Products, Building Products, Vehicles, Factory Built Structures and other regulated products. Recognition of the QAI name and logo have grown significantly over the past few years resulting in significant expansion of the business.

    We are looking for a Lumber Grader (contractor) in Washington area. Our ideal candidate would be someone who has NLGA experience in grading ticket. This person must be physically fit and have their own transportation to different sawmill location.

    Schedule: 1-2 inspections per month

    DUTIES: The successful candidate for this position will perform, but not limited to, the following duties:

    • Grade wood products to the required specification.
    • Inspect all graded lumber to ensure correct position and grading.
    • Written and verbal reports to clients and management

    QUALIFICATION: The successful candidate will have:

    • Must possess NLGA grading ticket
    • Must possess knowledge of lumber grading and NLGA standards
    • Must have a clear understanding of log and cant specifications (species, grades, and diameter sorts) required
    • Must have a clear understanding of grading requirements for designated species.
    • Must be organized, an effective communicator, quick and accurate thinker and detail orientated in all aspects of the job
    • Must have excellent hand-eye coordination
    • In good physical condition suited for repetitious lifting
    • Good time-management skills
    • Great interpersonal and communication skills
    • Must have the ability to make clear legible grade marks in a fast-paced environment.

    Key Technical Competence (Overall):

    • Able to grade wood products to the NLGA specification.
    • Good working knowledge of the test methods in their specific discipline.
    • Maintains a sense of ownership and responsibility for projects assigned to them.

    Additional Assets include:

    • Previous experience in construction industry
