    Description
    : The HPS Extended School Year (ESY) Program is for students in grades PK- 12+ who qualify for extended year services per their IEP's. The goal of the program is to prevent regression of learned and/or progressing skills during the Summer months.

    Locations for this summer are:Kelly School (Preschool, K-2 ABL/RISE), EN White School (3-5 ABL/RISE), Sullivan School (6-8 ABL, TIP, SHINE), Jericho (Inclusion), or Transitions Academy depending on students' IEP needs, district needs, and/or grade level. The HPS ESY Program runs from Monday 7/8/24-Thursday 8/8/24 from 8:45am-1:15pm. There will be a required staff orientation day on Thursday 6/27/24.

    *Hiring will be staggered throughout the Spring, based on student enrollment*

    The primary function of the ESY Special Education Paraprofessional is to assist in the implementation of ESY related IEP goals, objectives, and accommodations for students who participate in ESY services, per IEP's. ESY paraprofessionals work under the direction of the classroom teacher and IEP service providers to support students throughout their school day, ensuring a safe and productive learning environment. The ESY Excelsior Paraprofessional answers directly to the ESY Teacher and the ESY Site Supervisor. All ESY staff will be required to work in-person for all summer 2024 programming.

    Responsibilities:
    • Participates (in-person) on Staff Orientation Day on Thursday 6/27/24 from 9:00am-1:00pm
    • Assists in setting up classroom environment and materials conducive to student and IEP needs.
    • Assesis in the creation of visual supports and other materials to ensure an effective learning environment
    • Implements lesson plans, BSP's, and other strategies, as directed by ESY classroom teacher and other IEP service providers
    • Supervises safe and efficient arrival and departure of ESY transportation
    • Supervises student safety throughout the school day, and engages in positive reinforcement strategies to ensure a safe and productive learning environment
    • Maintains data collection, as directed by ESY classroom teacher and other IEP service providers
    • Models age appropriate social skills and facilitates effective social skills interactions between students.
    • Assists students with personal care/activities of daily living, including but not limited to: toileting, dressing, eating, handwashing.
    • Assists students with mobility and/or lifting, as directed by ESY classroom teacher and other IEP service providers
    • Communicates with teacher and other IEP service providers regarding student progress/behavior/special needs.
    • Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills introduced by the teacher.
    • Assists in the implementation of behavioral modification programs as directed and supervised by the teacher. Keeps behavioral logs (daily and/or weekly).
    • Assists in the implementation of augmentative communication devices/visuals and sensory materials, as directed by related service staff & student IEP's
    • Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, large group activities, and field trips.
    • Assists with lunch, snack and cleanup routines.
    • Dress for physical education/Specials activities so you can participate and assist students.
    • Help dress students for swimming. Dress appropriately so you can participate and assist in all aspects of the swim program as directed by adaptive physical education instructors
    • Other responsibilities, as assigned by ESY classroom teacher, other IEP service providers, ESY Site Supervisor, and/or Special Education Director of Intensive Services.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Associate's Degree or higher; OR Completing at least two years, or 48 credit hours of study at an institution of higher education; OR taking and passing a formal assessment measuring one's knowledge of and ability to assist classroom teachers in reading, writing, and mathematics.     • Training or experience working with Special Needs Students preferred
    • Experience working in an urban setting, preferred
    • Experience working with diverse student populations, preferred
    • Ability to read, interpret, and apply student performance data to instructional planning and execution
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills
    • Bilingual applicants (Spanish) strongly encouraged to apply
