    Overview:


    Reporting to the head of Greenfield Development, the Director of Development will lead and generate new solar and solar plus storage investment opportunities in the West Region for Deriva Energy and to execute on these opportunities.

    This role is best suited for an experienced developer interested in significantly growing energy investment opportunities across a large region of the US with the backing of a large owner-operator.

    You will lead project development activities for a portfolio of utility-scale solar and solar plus storage projects located in MISO, SPP and WECC.

    The role of the Director of Development is to generate new investment opportunities for Deriva Energy and to execute on these opportunities.

    This includes greenfield project development, contract structuring, transaction origination, and due diligence for utility scale solar and solar plus storage investments.

    This position is critical for Deriva Energy to realize ambitious growth aspirations. We are seeking a highly motivated individual, with an entrepreneurial mindset.


    Responsibilities:
    The purpose of the Director is to generate, develop, and execute a pipeline of competitive, customer-centric project investment opportunities.

    Able to succeed in a fast pace, dynamic, competitive marketplace

    Strong understanding of project drivers & competition to deliver project investment opportunities

    Commercial understanding of value and risk drivers related to project technical aspects (interconnection, resource, constructability, design, etc.)

    Ability to effectively negotiate commercial terms with counterparties to maximize value to The Company in a professional and ethical manner (customers, project partners, EPC/supplier contracts, transmission providers, landowners, taxing authorities / entities, O&M contracts, etc.)

    Demonstrated ability to identify strategic business opportunities

    Mitigate risk and successfully structure projects through complementary project contracts

    Perform risk assessments, business impact analyses and strategy selection

    Evaluate applicable laws and regulations to determine project impacts

    Strong understanding of financial drivers

    Strong customer focus & understanding of customer needs

    Work closely with the customer at all levels of the organization (C-Level executives to procurement personnel)

    Understand customer needs and structure specific business solutions

    Lead greenfield solar projects in Deriva's West Region to drive growth

    Manage a development budget and prudently spend company resources to create investment opportunities

    Develop and implement growth strategies

    Demonstrated ability to lead and manage project team members and technical subject matter experts

    Work across functional areas to foster collaboration and cooperation to achieve shared goals


    Provide direction to internal stakeholders such as, engineering, environmental, underwriting, operations, treasury, risk, tax, finance, accounting, insurance, corporate communications, etc.

    Support the finance, construction, and operations teams to achieve successful project outcomes


    Demonstrated ability to build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with external stakeholders including customers, project partners, local officials, community members, landowners, transmission owners, environmental agencies, regulatory bodies, etc.

    Frequent travel required to meet with key stakeholders

    Spearhead project approvals

    Prepare and participate in required transaction approval documentation and presentations for senior management approval and deal closure.

    Interact with senior management for reporting, strategy development and execution planning.

    Identify and lead new greenfield, co-development or acquisition opportunities for renewable projects. Lead development efforts from concept to completion.

    Manage and advance development projects to enable future investments and ultimately execute on approved projects.

    Project manage development and work closely with subject matter experts for real estate, interconnection, environmental, permitting, community relations, equipment supply, financial modeling, tax and marketing.

    Develop competitive strategies for new markets

    Present opportunities and strategies to executive management and gain company approvals


    QUALIFICATIONS

    Basic/Required Qualifications:
    Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering, or a related field and 7+ years of experience in the renewable energy industry or 10+ year of experience in the renewable energy industry in lieu of a degree

    Authorized to work in the United States.

    Utility-scale renewable energy project development experience

    Excellent problem-solving skills, optimistic self-starter

    Financial and business acumen, business strategy, executive level presentation


    Strong interpersonal skills with the desire to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and to meet deadlines and complete time-sensitive duties.


    Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
    Masters and 5 years' experience in utility-scale renewable energy development

    Extensive knowledge of wholesale electricity markets, interconnection process, real estate contracts, tax abatements and renewable energy technologies & policy incentives

    Proven experience developing and successfully building renewable energy projects.

    Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.


    Demonstrated ability to work in a flat organization, successfully leveraging the expertise of multiple colleagues in different lines of reporting.

    Ability to multi-task and arbitrate between conflicting priorities

    Ability to take ownership over tasks and work proactively.

    Excellent communication, project management and team-building skills experience working with cross- functional internal and external technical advisors and stakeholders.
