    JOB PURPOSE:

    The CMM Operator:

    • performs measurements on the CMM equipment, including first articles and routine dimensional inspection.
    • Provides data to support the development of FAIR's (First Article Inspection Reports).
    • Advises production on the dimensional status of production parts, including start-up production.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Reviews all documents relating to the job at hand.
    • Ensure Hexagon CMM machinery is in good working order before setup.
    • Setup CMM machine to successfully conduct run as program specified.
    • Monitors production run throughout the cycle, checking specifications are met.
    • Performs 1st article piece production to ensure quality.
    • Keep all work areas clean and organized.
    • Assists in upkeep of calibration program for measuring and test resources.
    • Report any safety or maintenance concerns to management immediately.
    • Provides support to help resolve production/machine issues.
    • Technical support or help another team member if necessary under supervision of supervisor.
    • Commitment to all safety policies and regulations at all times.
    • Other duties may be assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Able to learn from reading documentation and measuring tool devices (train).
    • Preferred experience in operating CMM machine.
    • Able to work with shop standard tools and efficiently set and validate tooling on Hexagon CMM machinery.
    • Able to write a simple program (Vise Jaws, Tap holes, pin stopped hole).
    • Consistently achieve defined productivity level on all products processed; run product independently for a period of at least three months.
    • Proven record of quality, on time production run.
    • Keen eye for detail.
    • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating machine maintenance, and instruction and/or procedure manuals.
    • Positive attitude, reliable, and a team player.
    • Must maintain confidentiality of work related information and materials.
    • High school diploma, GED or equivalent work experience.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • None

    SKILLS / ABILITIES:

    • Demonstrated understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
    • Ability to read blue prints
    • A good eye to detail
    • Good computer skills
    • Ability to work with the team to produce timely and accurate FAIR's.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • While performing duties of this job, the employees is regularly required to stand; use hands, and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hand and arms; and talk to hear.
    • The employee is occasionally required to lift and climb balancing.
    • Ability to lift 30 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) or protective gear may be required. Occasionally exposed to risk outside diameter (OD) electrical shock. Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, humid condition, fumes or airborne particles, flying metal burrs and chips and possible chemical irritants such as water-based coolants, hydraulic oils, degreasing soap and mineral spirit. Occasionally exposed to uncomfortable cold or heat.
