    Specialty Areas

    Transmission Engineers are responsible for the engineering of all Inside Plant transmission facilities to include but not limited to Asynchronous and SONET fiber optic multiplexors, cable systems, wireless multi and point-to-point radio facilities, and a wide range of broad brand facilities to include ATM, TLS (Transparent LAN Services) and Frame Relay, Thorough knowledge of the DACS (Digital Access & Cross-connect systems), DSL (Digital Subscriber Line), and DLC equipment to include but not limited to HDSL, SDSL, and ADSL facilities. The Transmission Engineer may also participate in providing a wide range of LAN/WAN networking solutions.

    Switching Network Engineers are responsible for the engineering and provisioning of all ACS inside Plant Central Office switching nodes, wireless switching infrastructure, Broadband STP's, and similar IP switching platforms. Provides engineering support for ancillary equipment systems interfaced to Central Office switches and wireless equipment.

    Wireless Network Engineers are responsible for the design activities related to wireless communication systems and identify problem areas in terms of coverage, interference, or pilot pollution. Plans and executes tasks in the customer network during the deployment phase. Confirms spectrum clearance, integration testing, power calibration, and call-through tests were carried out, and all entrance criteria are met before start of optimization. Troubleshoots problem areas and provides recommendations for system performance enhancements. Generates script files necessary for RF optimization. Performs sanity check on antenna configuration. Participates in developing functional details of new services and products, process and methodology changes, analytical tools and techniques.

    Outside Plant Engineers are responsible for the design activity related to outside plant cable and equipment including fiber, copper, cabinets, conduit, pole lines and any ancillary equipment. Utilizes land base, subdivision plats, right of way drawings, civil designs and other types of drawings and data to determine best routing and correct facility placement to ensure that the facilities are properly sized and placed in the correct legal locations. Plans proper facility utilization by using cable records and population density counts to ensure proper cable sizing. Ensures all facilities are either permitted properly by the correct government agency or that the appropriate private right of way is acquired. Provides design analysis to ensure best cost construction. Develop plans and alternatives when required.

    Application and/or CPE (Customer Premise Equipment) Engineers are responsible for working closely with the Sales and Marketing Department in interfacing with customers to define the customer requirements and to be the liaison with the Engineering Department. Working with the various Engineering Departments, they will be instrumental in identifying the best Voice CPE solutions for the particular customer requirements. The Applications and/or CPE Engineer will also be active in preparing proposals in response to particular customer requests for proposal (RFPs). They are responsible for coordinating the system design, programming documentation, and testing of telecommunications systems for customers of large, enterprise-wide business solutions. The incumbent is responsible for managing the post-sale customer interface, including ascertaining the telecommunications requirements, translating requirements into a functional system, and training the customer on optimal equipment operation.

    • Plans and schedules work, communicates effectively, and maintains effective working relationships with supervisors and customers
    • Recommends, creates and maintains all documentation as it relates to configuration, mapping, processes, service/circuit records, and asset inventories including topologies, administration manuals, standard operating procedures, support contacts, policies, procedures and training plans
    • Maintains and reports accurate documentation on relevant hardware & software life cycle
    • Updates asset management records, including maintenance of component asset inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information
    • Provides regular maintenance and refreshes activities necessary to fulfill customer service requests
    • Works with cross functional teams throughout the company to ensure seamless transitions of our products and services to the end customer
    • Other duties as assigned
    • Qualifies new equipment for use in the network and provides operational training on such equipment to the operational teams within the company
    • Provides technical guidance to technicians for telecommunications facilities construction, turn-up, test and maintenance
    • Assists in Engineering Design and respond to RFPs or non-basic detailed Quote requests
    • Pre and Post Sales Support to Sales, Marketing, and Operations to include working with customers to identify service requirements and optimum network solutions; prepare competitive proposals in response to customer solicitations
    • Maintains and tracks vendor relationships for training certifications, maintenance, and product support
    • Performs ongoing monitoring, analysis, trending and reporting of current utilization levels and estimates future requirements using trends and thresholds for planning upgrades and enhancements
    • Other duties as assigned
    • Provides recommendations (written reports when appropriate) in his/her area of authority and expertise
    • Performs technical design for network changes to existing or new hardware and software systems required to provide new functionality or enhance current performance and transition these changes to the operational environment
    • Mitigates the adverse impacts of service effecting issues on the business caused by network full or partial outages in the infrastructure and initiates actions to prevent recurrence of such issues
    • Proactively recommends and performs performance optimization activities to maximize efficiency and effectiveness of network resources
    • Performs risk management on a continual basis to ensure the identification and elimination of risks that can affect system availability, performance and reliability
    • Continually monitors the security of the network and ensures best practices have been implemented to thwart vulnerabilities of network attacks
    • Provides recommendations for new technology initiatives, standards and changes to the network or operating environment
    • Other duties as assigned
    Minimum Education and Experience Required

    Bachelors Degree in a technological field and 2 years relevant experience. Bachelors Degree can be replaced by relevant experience on a year for year basis.

    Additional Job Requirements

    Possess and maintain a valid Alaska Driver's License
