    Employee Relations Case Managers manage the most complex employee relations issues by providing guidance, counsel, and direction to senior level leaders. Provides leadership to and is accountable for the consistent application of policies and procedures which impact the organization. Uses sound business judgment to minimize the risk to the organization while directing management level staff on appropriate workplace practices.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Provides leadership and direction to ELTs, SLTs and directors 29+ on how to handle the most complex employee relations issues within their business segments. Ensures all performance management, termination and workplace issues involving senior level staff is handled within policies and guidelines
    • Consults on all involuntary terminations for ELTs, SLTs, and directors 29+
    • Develops investigation strategy for workplace investigations. Educates managers and human capital partners on conducting objective workplace investigations. Responsible for ensuring all relevant information is gathered and documented. Partners with ER Investigations Team to develop investigation strategy for investigations that include allegations of harassment, discrimination, hostile work environment, etc. Provides all factual data to management in order to take appropriate actions
    • Accountable to address all Step 3 Internal Dispute Resolution ("IDR") cases with managers and employees. Provides guidance to management on understanding the overall IDR process, management's role and responsibilities, management's involvement in the investigation, and how to write an appropriate IDR response. Engages the ER Investigations Team as appropriate if the Internal Dispute Resolution includes allegations of harassment, discrimination, hostile work environment, etc.
    • Manages and is accountable for large, complex reduction-in-force (downsizing) activities and ensures that the processes involved are objectively and consistently administered
    • Identifies and communicates trends within the organization and the industry. Conducts surveys, studies, or research relevant to human resource policies, guidelines, and practices. Makes recommendations regarding policies and procedures
    • Manages and coordinates responses to requests for proposals and audits
    • Promotes and assist HR leadership by analyzing data, trends, trajectories, and environmental scans to build proactive positive employee relations strategies
    • Assigned as a subject matter expert on various employee relations processes, manages required updates, and provides training to the ER Case Manager team
    • Participate in on-call rotation 24/7 (via cell phone) for a week about every 18 weeks
    • Required to travel as needed for training and/or special projects

    Required Qualifications:

    • 10+ years of employee relations/human resources, including substantial experience in a large, multi-state organization
    • 5+ years of experience managing complex ER cases for senior leaders
    • Computer literacy including knowledge of MS suite of applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams)
    • In depth knowledge of state and federal employment laws including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, OWBPA, and Wage/hour experience
    • Demonstrated decision-making ability and excellent judgment
    • Experience working with managers on complex performance management, disciplinary and termination issues, and reductions-in-force (downsizings)
    • Effective consultation and influencing skills. Ability to use constructive confrontation and conflict resolution skills effectively
    • Passionate about enhancing the employee experience, being a people advocate, and improving culture
    • Gain trust by creating positive relationships, understanding business objectives, exercising good judgment, and delivering on commitments
    • Demonstrated experience in conducting complex investigations
    • Ability to maintain a high level of quality, accuracy, and timely documentation of assigned work
    • Solid analytical skills (problem assessment, solution generation)
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and can maintain a high workload
    • Ability to work a telecommuter position in California

    California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $104,700 to $190,400 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable.
