- Installation: Install new refrigeration systems and equipment, including walk-in coolers, freezers, refrigerated display cases, ice makers, and beverage dispensers, according to manufacturer specifications and building codes.
- Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning coils, replacing filters, checking refrigerant levels, lubricating moving parts, and inspecting electrical components, to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency.
- Repairs: Diagnose refrigeration problems, such as compressor failures, refrigerant leaks, temperature fluctuations, and electrical issues, and implement timely repairs to restore functionality and prevent food spoilage or equipment damage.
- Emergency Response: Respond promptly to refrigeration emergencies, such as system breakdowns, temperature alarms, and equipment malfunctions, to minimize disruptions to hotel operations and ensure the safety of perishable inventory.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, codes, and safety standards pertaining to refrigeration systems, including refrigerant handling and disposal protocols, as well as food safety regulations related to temperature control.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of refrigeration maintenance activities, including inspections, repairs, and replacements, to track equipment performance, warranty coverage, and compliance requirements.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a vocational training program or apprenticeship in refrigeration mechanics or HVAC/R technology is preferred.
- Certification: Valid refrigeration technician license or certification issued by the relevant authority. Additional certifications in refrigerant handling, electrical systems, and safety training are desirable.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working as a refrigeration mechanic, preferably in a hospitality or commercial setting.
- Skills: Proficient knowledge of refrigeration systems, components, and troubleshooting techniques. Strong mechanical aptitude and diagnostic skills. Excellent attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols. Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
- The Refrigeration Mechanic may be required to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate maintenance schedules and emergency situations.
- The role involves working in various indoor and outdoor environments, including kitchen areas, food storage rooms, mechanical rooms, and exterior spaces, sometimes in confined or elevated spaces.
- The Refrigeration Mechanic may be exposed to hazards such as refrigerant leaks, electrical shocks, cold temperatures, and heavy lifting, and must adhere to safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.
