    Behavioral Health Specialist 1, Qualified Mental Health Associate (Umatilla)

    Two Rivers Correctional Institution (Umatilla, Oregon)

    The Oregon Department of Corrections is looking to increase their staff in their Behavioral Health Services (BHS) unit. This exciting employment opportunity exists within the Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla, Oregon. This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified candidates and may be used to fill multiple/future vacancies. All interested parties are encouraged to apply.

    Duties

    As a Qualified Mental Health Associates (QMHA) you will be monitoring the progress of mentally ill/ DD adults in custody (AICs) in treatment and report any change in the AIC's level of functioning, medication compliance and side effects to a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP). You will refer for medication management, medical services, Mental Health Housing (MHU), Day Treatment (DTU), Intermediate Care Housing (ICH), Behavioral Housing Unit (BHU) or Mental Health Infirmary (MHI). You will develop MH/DD support plans and assists with the development of a risk management plan as a member of a multi-disciplinary team for assigned mentally ill/DD AICs where goals are determined, and appropriate interventions are developed and modified. Assist a QMHP in the gathering and compiling of information to be included in a mental health assessment and psycho-social history. Communicate with institution release counselor identified AICs needs at release. Facilitate mental health treatment groups in general population and special housing.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • A Bachelor's degree in a behavioral science field; OR
    • A combination of at least three years of relevant work, education, training, or experience; OR
    • Possession of a current Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA) certification; OR
    • A qualified Mental Health Intern, as defined in

    Required Skills

    • Conducting assessments (ASAM or similar – please specify)
    • Conducting initial suicide risk screening
    • Gathering information for treatment planning
    • Monitoring client progress
    • Facilitating substance abuse/relapse prevention/education classes
    • Individual skills training
    • Identifying release planning needs
    • Facilitating therapy groups
