    Why NHCS?

    Neighborhood House Charter School (NHCS) is a tuition-free open enrollment charter school for grades K1-12 in Dorchester that is a public alternative to traditional district schools.

    We serve nearly 800 scholars across two campuses predominantly from the neighborhoods of Dorchester, Roxbury and Mattapan.

    We believe in the social-emotional well-being of our scholars and know that a well-coached and supported educator is instrumental in helping our scholars both academically and in their social-emotional growth.

    We do not give up on kids.

    Our expectation is that all of our scholars thrive at NHCS, graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education on the path to life success.

    Our educators are partners with our scholars and their families as they embark on this path.

    What is the High School Principal role?

    The High School Principal ensures all school staff have access to the knowledge, skills, and resources that they need to implement the school's mission and align with our design principles - rooted in love, greater than the sum of our parts, joyful rigor, good trouble, and sense of self, sense of purpose.


    They serve the organization as the instructional, operational, and cultural leader of grades - 12, developing and supporting school-based student programming, and strong family partnerships in support of teaching, learning, and student achievement.

    In addition, they facilitate collaboration across stakeholders to develop, lead, and make improvements to a strong school environment that results in the success and growth of all students.

    This position is a year-round Leadership Team position with full benefits and six weeks of vacation. Salaries for this position are based on education and experience. Someone coming to us with a master's degree and 5 years of experience can expect to make $106,680.

    You are committed to cultivating anti-racist, culturally responsive and restorative practices;
    You have 5+ years of teaching experience and 3+ years of school based leadership experience;
    You possess a valid Massachusetts School Principal License or enrollment in a School Principal Licensure Program, or proof of successful completion of MA-PAL;
    You demonstrate leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and parents in a diverse environment;
    You have excellent analytical skills as well as oral and written communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills;
    You will thrive in a community in which all members demonstrate accountability, flexibility, humor, effort, responsibility, respect and hope;
    You are available to start work by July 29, 2024.
