One Tech Engineering is looking for a Substation Technician for a position located near Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Substation Technician will service and test transformers, relays, breakers, switches, and other electrical apparatus/systems at utility substations and industrial facilities.
The candidate must be a US Citizen or a green card holder, the position is not eligible for sponsorship. The candidate should have an Associate's degree in Electrical Power or Electrical Engineering, or 5+ years of hands-on field experience.
Local candidates preferred. This is not a remote position.
- Ground grid testing, medium voltage cable testing.
- Troubleshoot and test control circuits, communications systems, protections systems and other electrical apparatus.
- Perform breaker and relay retrofits.
- Ability to read prints and control/protection schemes.
- Complete and submit reports accurately and timely.
- All other duties as assigned by management.
- Applying test procedures for various types of relay test equipment.
- Substation awareness and Safety consciousness.
- Aptitude to quickly learn and apply test procedures for various types of substation equipment.
- Performs testing on low and medium voltage breakers including Megger, Ductor, Hi-Pot, Hi-Current, and Timing tests.
- Testing on power transformers including Power Factor, TTR, Insulation Resistance, Winding Resistance.
- Completes mechanical work and repairs on breakers including wiring, painting, parts replacement.
- Utilizes and accurately reads meters.
- Reading and plotting curves.
- Associate's degree in Electrical Power or Electrical Engineering, or 5+ years of hands-on field experience.
- Experience as a Switchgear/High Voltage Technician.
- Proficiency with high voltage test equipment as well as knowledge of low and medium voltage test equipment.
- Proficient computer and phone skills, to include Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to work a flexible schedule based on client/customer needs.
- Valid driver's license.
- Effective communication skills.
- Extensive travel; up to 5 days/week with overnights possible.
- On call duty is required approximately six times per year.
- This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, crawling, and reaching frequently.
- Aerial work may sometimes be necessary, such as working on ladders or scaffolding.
