    Job Title: Locum Emergency Medicine Physician

    This is a locum opportunity to address recruitment gaps in an emergency department.

    About the Job

    • Durations of 13 weeks, starting on March 1st and ending May 31st, 2025.
    • Shifts will be varied, including days (8 AM - 8 PM) and nights (8 PM - 8 AM).

    Requirements

    • Board certification in Emergency Medicine or Family Practice with ER experience is required.
    • Certifications such as ACLS, ATLS, PALS (for non-EM boarded physicians), and BLS are necessary.
    • A clean background for quick credentialing, local residency, and valid DEA licensure are must-haves.

    Work Environment

    The emergency department has four full-time physicians, one PRN physician, one full-time midlevel provider, and two PRN midlevel providers. The average daily patient volume is 54 patients in an 18-bed ED.

    The hospital uses Cerner for Electronic Health Records (EHR). Approximately 90% of total hospital admissions come from the ED, with 8% of ED patients admitted to the hospital and 2% transferred daily.

    The ED holds a Provisional Level 4 Trauma designation, with an annual ER volume of 20,000 patients. There is no Fast Track available in the ED.

    Responsibilities

    • Supervise the midlevel provider on duty.
    • Respond to house codes with the support of the hospitalist and anesthesia team.
    • Most admissions are handled by hospitalists.
    • The ED is responsible for supervising Paramedics/ambulance via radio.
    • Referral/transfer protocols include nearby facilities for specialty coverage or bed availability.
    • Radiology services are available 24 hours a day for CT and X-ray, but not MRI.
    • Laboratory services are also available 24 hours a day.
    • The Pathology and Blood Bank departments are certified.
    • Full surgical services, including orthopedic support, are available.
    • Cardiologists interpret EKGs.
