    The Kern National Network for Flourishing in Medicine (KNN) is seeking a skilled and passionate Academic Writer to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in academic writing, a keen interest in research, and excellent communication skills. This role involves conducting in-depth research on various social issues, synthesizing information, and producing high-quality written content for a diverse audience.

    The Academic writer will contribute to the development of educational materials, articles, reports, and other content that contributes to a deeper understanding of phenomena and support the submission of created works to presentation opportunities and peer-reviewed journals. The individual will work independently, under leadership from the KNN Program Office.

    Responsibilities:

    • Conduct thorough literature reviews on topics relevant to the KNN Framework for Flourishing.
    • Generate original text and materials by collecting, organizing, interpreting and classifying information for research and reporting purposes.
    • Ensure accuracy and quality in reporting data; remain current on technologies, research projects, methods of data collection, and operating procedures.
    • Utilize both qualitative and quantitative research methods to gather data.
    • Analyze research findings and synthesize information into coherent and insightful narratives.
    • Create research reports, white papers, articles, and book chapters that communicate complex ideas for an academic audience.
    • Ensure the accurate preparation of documents for manuscript submission, including reviewing all abstract and publication manuscripts prior to submission to journal as well as serving as main point of contact for various manuscript submission platforms.
    • Assure compliance with regulatory and institutional policies, especially those related to Institutional Review Board (IRB).
    • Assume role of project manager for writing assignments which include project planning, time management, keeping other team members informed and on task, submitting finished project on time and in specified format, working with outside printing vendors, maintaining inventory of published materials, and any follow-up required.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including designers, editors, and subject matter experts, to create comprehensive and visually appealing content.
    • Assist in the layout and design of presentation materials for publication to ensure quality and accuracy of printed reports, documents, manuscript, or other publications.
    • Stay abreast of current social science research, emerging trends, and relevant developments, especially those related to flourishing in medicine.
    • Attend conferences, workshops, and other events to enhance knowledge and network with experts in the field.
    • Participate on appropriate committees relevant to the advancement of the program and the profession or area of research.
    • Adapt writing style to suit different target audiences, including academics, policymakers, and the general public.
    • Respond to feedback and make necessary revisions to enhance the quality of written materials.

    This position is 100% remote with business hours of Monday-Friday 8:00 am.-5:00 pm. 20% travel throughout the U.S. will be required.

    Knowledge - Skills - Abilities

    Proven experience in academic writing.

    Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

    Familiarity with reference management tools, literature review methodologies, and related areas.

    A genuine passion for advancing knowledge in the field.

    Fully Remote. Mon-Friday 8:00 am.-5:00 pm.



    Position Requirements:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.

    Minimum education: Bachelor's Degree

    Minimum experience: 4 years

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Preferred education: Master's Degree or higher
    Field: Communication, Social Sciences, Education Theory, Social Sciences, Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, Education, or a related field.
