POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Planning and implementing a high quality, safe, fun camp program, including scheduling staffing assignments, assigning camper groups, managing staff time off requests and scheduling, planning large all-camp activities, and adjusting the schedule as needed due to weather.
Maintaining and controlling the inventory of supplies necessary for program implementation.
Participation in the planning and implementation of a 10 day staff training.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Work cooperatively as a team member with all Camp Abnaki staff, modeling behavior supporting the YMCA mission and character values.
Know and review proper emergency procedures with both campers and staff.
Keep program areas clean and equipment in good working order, including performing routine checks on equipment for use by staff, campers, and guests.
Report to work on time as scheduled, attend all staff meetings and trainings, and carry out all responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.
Help train, supervise, and evaluate the Program Team and all other staff working during free time assignments and skill class assignments.
Help ensure program aquatics and program design guidelines and operations are maintained to American Camp Association standards at all times.
Ability to communicate, supervise, and work with assigned ages and skill levels and provide necessary instruction.Abilities to observe camper and staff behavior, assess appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
Physical ability to respond appropriately to aquatic and land based emergencies and situations requiring first aid.Make decisions related to weather conditions and the safe operation of campwide programming.
Perform Evening Watch and Leader on Duty, as assigned.
At the end of the summer, complete a detailed end of season report including an inventory of supplies and ordering needs, an evaluation of personnel, and an overview of department operations.
Ability to live on site for the duration of the season.QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred candidate over the age of 21, possesses a valid current drivers license and a clean driving record.
Must possess leadership experience with groups of various ages and sizes.
Must have prior experience in a resident camp setting and possess knowledge of basic camp activities.
Must possess superior organizational skills and supervisory skills, and be familiar with Microsoft office productivity tools or alternatives
Must be in sympathy with and committed to carrying out the basic purposes of camp.
Good health, vitality, maturity and moral character.
Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
Have prior experience in a supervisory role.
Must have skill and ability in leading one or more program area.
Must enjoy working with children and have the ability to understand the needs of campers while placing these needs (and the needs of camp) ahead of personal desires.
Must be able to stand for extended lengths of time (up to 10 hours) and be able to walk around camp continuously for at least 2 hours.
Must be First Aid and CPR certified, or have the ability to obtain.WORK ENVIRONMENT &
