    Summary

    The Associate Grants & Contracts Analyst serves as a member of a team of professionals in the MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) Grants & Contracts Office (G&C), responsible for carrying out day-to-day post-award / financial administrative / data and agreement tasks for sponsored projects.

    Within Financial Management / Award Management / Data and Agreement, the Associate Grants & Contracts Analyst is responsible for ensuring financial and non-financial compliance with Federal and sponsor regulations and Institutional policies.

    The Associate Grants & Contracts Analyst member collaborates with pre-award and departmental staff in the financial management of the MDACC's grants and contracts to ensure excellent customer service to researchers, administrators, and sponsors and effective stewardship of sponsor funds.


    Key Functions

    • Perform a variety of analytical activities to ensure compliance with various accounting principles, sponsor requirements, federal and state guidelines, and institutional policies
    • Perform ongoing operational tasks, which may include:

    o Award Management:
    Performing account financial reconciliation for assigned departments constituencies, monitoring of sponsored award spending for allowability and compliance with federal and sponsor regulations, managing payroll and sponsored project effort, preparation of required financial and accounting reports to sponsors, sponsored project financial and non-financial closeout according to Institutional policy and good accounting practices and institutional audit engagement and response

    o Financial Management:
    Generating monthly standard invoices, monitoring and researching cash payments, processing monthly Letter Of Credit Draws and related reporting, monitoring cash balances, and other collection and cash management duties

    o Data and Agreement Management:
    Performing the account set-up process, ensuring that all relevant data is captured in post-award systems and files, reviewing subrecipient entities to assess risk and executing sub-award agreements and preparing operational reports and metrics for internal and external audiences

    • Work with Principal Investigators, Division and Department Administration and Sponsors to provide excellent customer service and resolve issues related to sponsored programs management
    • Keep up-to-date on sponsor requirements, institutional policies, and state and federal regulations
    • Other duties as assigned

    Education

    Required:
    Bachelor's degree.


    Experience

    Required:

    No experience is required. May substitute required experience with additional years of education on a one to one year basis.


    Preferred:
    Two years of experience in accounting/financial analysis role.
    Two to three years of Post-award experience
    PeopleSoft ERP and Grants Module
    Strong project management skills
    Administrative/business experience in an academic medical center research setting
    Excellent analytical skills (e.g. ability to accurately analyze multiple data sets)
    Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage deadlines
    Effective written and oral communication skills (e.g. ability to communicate with others in a clear and professional manner)
    Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills (e.g. ability to work with personnel at all levels to gather information and communicate compliance requirements)
    Strong proficiency in financial analytical tools, such as Microsoft Excel
    Ability to read and accurately interpret sponsored programs policies, procedures, federal regulations and guidelines (such as contract and notice of award documents)
    Experience using financial accounting systems or fund accounting systems
