Live, work and play in Wyoming's capital city Looking for a great place to start your journalism career, learning from established, award-winning colleagues who can help you get to the next level? Want to expand your skill set at a credible, legacy news organization that's doing more than just dabbling in digital-first journalism? Interested in doing it while living within easy reach of the Rocky Mountains and Denver?

If you answered yes, Cheyenne is where you need to be. Whether you're a fresh college grad or a veteran reporter, our main objective at the Wyoming Tribune Eagle and is to make you a better journalist while having fun and collaborating with colleagues who are passionate about their work, and eager to go out and enjoy all the area has to offer in their free time.

As we seek our next criminal justice reporter, the ideal candidate will have an interest in covering law enforcement and court news, as well as a willingness to cover other types of stories and features. This person often serves as our second reporter during state legislative sessions. We're looking to hire someone equally comfortable covering breaking news or sitting in the courtroom, covering an arraignment, trial or sentencing. We are always looking to hire competitive journalists with a drive to be first to tell stories online, along with digging into longer-term, larger-scale stories that include visual and digital components, as well as people-focused stories.

Cheyenne is also home to the "world's largest outdoor rodeo and Western celebration," Cheyenne Frontier Days, which takes place each year over 10 days at the end of July. Everyone on our team gets multiple opportunities to cover the "Daddy of 'em All," including parades, pancake breakfasts, American Indian dancers and storytellers, air shows, etc. (Don't worry if you've never been to a rodeo or owned a pair of boots; we'll get you ready quickly)

    Essential skills and requirements:

    · Bachelor's degree or higher in communication or journalism.

    · Comfortable writing quickly and consistently in AP style.

    · Strong eye for detail.

    Desired skills and experience:

    · Experience writing enterprise and long-form content, as well as telling personal stories.

    · Experience covering news on social media platforms.

    · Some experience with photography, video and/or design preferred, but not required.

This position requires a professional who is passionate about journalism and the impact it has on our local communities. If you feel like you'd be the right fit, send a resume, cover letter, writing samples and at least three references to Managing Editor Brian Martin at

Cheyenne is located 90 minutes north of Denver and 45 minutes east of Laramie, home of Wyoming's only four-year university. We are less than two hours from Rocky Mountain National Park, and close to many other scenic outdoor areas, including great places to hike, fish, ski, camp and bike. If you're looking for a small city with plenty of amenities that still maintains a small-town feel, this is the perfect place for you
