    Description
    Principal Function: The Grounds Crew position is responsible for performing gardening, landscaping, snow removal and grounds maintenance helping to provide a safe, clean and aesthetically appealing environment. Provides maintenance of irrigation systems, pathways and paved surfaces.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:
    1. Maintains physical condition and appearance of all non-historic public areas
    2. Prunes trees and hedges, mows lawn, removes weeds, edges walkways and maintains exterior areas
    3. Mixes and applies fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and other chemicals following manufacturer's directions and departmental guidelines
    4. Prepares soil for planting and maintains beds and grass around buildings
    5. Maintains flowers and plants in public gardens and all grounds.
    6. Helps perform routine road and parking lot maintenance and repair to include snow removal from parking and pedestrian areas
    7. Identifies and assists with exterior repairs
    8. Provides assistance as needed in other areas of Conner Prairie
    Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

    Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is exposed to working in wet or humid conditions (non-weather), and outdoor weather conditions. The employee will frequently work near moving mechanical parts, in high, precarious places, near fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold (non-weather), extreme heat (non-weather), risk of electrical shock, and work with explosives. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    Equipment used may include hand tools, riding and push mowers, weed eaters, automobile, pickup truck, golf cart, power tools, high lift, backhoe and tractor.

    Conner Prairie is generally open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, this position will be required to work beyond these hours and when open for special events.
