    JOB SUMMARY:This role works onUniversal's Business Analytics and Industrial Engineering team, specifically with the Workforce planning team, forecasting Labor Demand and Optimization. The role will formulate and apply advanced analytical approaches, such as statistical modeling, forecasting, machine learning, mathematical optimization, and decision analysis, to name a few, in the production of analytical models, tools, and processes to improve the effectiveness and relevance of our efforts to drive incremental business value for the company.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Explore new, state-of-the-art analytical tools, methodologies, and technology that can be leveraged by our team.
    • Formulate and apply advanced analytical approaches, such as causal and time series forecasting modeling, econometric methods, machine learning modeling, mathematical optimization, to name a few, for complex analyses, predictions and problem-solving. Perform data and error analysis to improve models.
    • Own and drive initiatives end-to-end that deliver business value, from formulating the problem, model building through developing a solution.
    • Lead and manage Analysts, Engineers, Associate Data Scientists and/or Data Scientists; up to 4 direct reports.
    • Assist in collecting, cleaning, and organizing data. Analyze large structured and unstructured datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
    • Use business intelligence tools to create and maintain clear and compelling reporting and visualizations to communicate complex findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION: Master's degree in data science, data analytics, marketing or management science, statistics, industrial engineering, operations research, mathematics, computer science, decision science, or a closely-related field of study is required. Prefer Bachelor's degree in similar area of study.

    EXPERIENCE: 5+ years of applied experience in analytical model design, development and deployment required; or a combination of education and experience is required. 7+ years of experience formulating and applying advanced analytical approaches a plus. Prior data science in theme parks, resorts, retail/dining/entertainment venues, hospitality industry, etc. is preferred.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:Develop analytical and predictive models and solutions for any and all operating divisions within Universal Destinations & Experiences (UDX) to support key decisions in order to drive incremental business value. The ideal candidate should not only have a strong foundation in advanced analytical modeling, programming, and data analysis, but should also have a passion for solving real-world problems using data-driven insights, along with the ability to translate and communicate complex data into actionable insights. The candidate will play a crucial role in driving data-driven decision-making processes and contributing to the overall success of the organization. In addition, the person in this role will be responsible for supporting and guiding Analysts, Engineers, Associate Data Scientists and Data Scientists on the use of advanced model development methodologies.

    SKILLS:

    • Must have proficiency with data mining, mathematics, machine learning, and statistical analysis
    • Must have experience and proficiency using machine learning platforms (e.g., AzureML), process automation platforms (e.g., MS Power Automate, etc.), application development platform (e.g., Power Apps, etc.), data querying and scripting/programming tools (e.g., SQL, Python, etc.), business intelligence/data visualization software tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, etc.), and statistical modeling software applications (e.g., R, etc.)
    • Proven strong PC skills including spreadsheets, databases, and presentation graphics software
    • Demonstrated leadership ability and/or previous managerial experience
    • Strong coaching/mentoring skills
    • Leadership experience in continuous improvement
    • Strong critical thinking and creative problem solving skills
    • Demonstrated superior conceptual thinking skills
    • The ability to work through complex problems
    • Capable of communicating and expressing ideas clearly and concisely, in both written and oral formats
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under changing conditions
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
    • Demonstrated understanding of the Universal Destinations & Experiences (UDX) heritage and a commitment to change and excellence
    • Willingness to support a 24/7/365 Universal Destinations & Experiences (UDX) operation, which includes periods of high demand (weekends, holidays, etc.)
