    General Notes

    UTCSR is responsible for the scoping, science data analysis and science operations for the US/German GRACE-FO and GRACE-C Missions. An understanding of gravity field estimation from satellite geodetic data within an operational space mission environment is essential for this job.

    Purpose

    Contribute to science algorithm innovation, science data analysis and interpretation for gravity missions at CSR. Expected to publish scholarly research and develop or contribute to development of grant proposals for scholarly research.

    Responsibilities

    • Gravity field estimation, validation, and analysis using spaceborne satellite tracking data.
    • Operation and maintenance of data systems and software for gravity field estimation and validation.
    • Algorithmic research and innovation in the solution of the gravity field inverse problems in diverse contexts.
    • Research development, documentation, assist in student training, and other research and tasks as assigned or needed.

    Required Qualifications

    • PhD in Aerospace Engineering or related disciplines.
    • Experience with satellite geodetic data analysis and interpretation of Earth's global gravity field.
    • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with diverse methods of solving the satellite gravity inverse problem, with particular attention to stabilization and regularization methods.
    • Familiarity with AI/ML methods.
    • Familiarity with science data systems for space geodetic missions, the space environment, spaceflight mechanics, and engineering analysis of data.
    • Experience with analysis of common satellite geodetic measurements such as from satellite-to-satellite tracking, GNSS, and gravity gradiometry.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Should be self-motivated, and demonstrate desire and ability to work with others in a deadline-driven, collaborative environment.
    • Computing: Experience with Unix/Linux environment, shell scripting and python is required. Experience with MPI/OpenMP and coding in multi-processor high-performance computing cluster environment is preferred. Experience with databases and FORTRAN, C, C++, php is a plus.

    Salary Range

    $85,000+ depending on qualifications.

    • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
    • Occasional on-call/travel duties.
    • This is a TX-based position eligible for flexible scheduling and hybrid work.
