LOCATION: District-Wide

START DATE: February 2, 2026

PAY RATE: $36.39 per/hr

HOURS: 8 hours scheduled day, 0.5 hours unpaid lunch (8 hours paid/day)

BARGAINING UNIT: UDESPA

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The primary function of the Plumber is to perform all work including inspection, repair and installation of piping, fixtures and fittings to maintain water, sewage, gas, fuel, and drainage systems within the School District of Upper Dublin.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

The Plumber reports to the Assistant Director of Facilities.

The Plumber works cooperatively with administrators, supervisors, staff, and others to perform job responsibilities as outlined.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Full Time 12 Months Position (261 days unless agreed to differently). 8 hours/day Monday-Friday 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (1/2 hr. lunch), 40 hours per week.
Benefits are included in the UDESPA contract.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Repairs and maintains piping systems and plumbing fixtures for hot and cold water supply, natural gas and fuel oil lines, sewage system and other liquid and gas lines.

Inspects all piping systems, connections and system components for leaks or loss of pressure and schedules necessary repairs.

Actively maintains both a truck inventory and Campus specific inventory of regularly used plumbing fittings and associated hardware using all online, computer based inventory systems.

Opens clogged drains, commodes and sewage lines with plumber snake or other means.

Performs plumbing work as required on heating systems to replace pipes, traps, valves, fittings and other components as appropriate to the plumbing trade.

Installs plumbing fixtures and appliances such as sinks, showers, water heaters, toilet, dishwashing machines, washing machines and pumps and makes all necessary connections for use of the fixtures or appliance.

Reads blueprints to plan fixture and appliance installation and properly sizes plumbing pipes and fixtures.

Works with threaded piping, welded piping, soldered fittings, cutting and joining.

Estimate material requirements and selects proper material, tools, equipment and procedure for plumbing work.

QUALIFICATIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The position holder must possess a current, valid driver's license as required by local law or regulation.

Current Act 34, Act 151, FBI & Act 126 clearances are also required.

Plumbing license preferred

High school graduate with technical or on the job training as a plumber.

Knowledge and observance of safety precautions.

Knowledge of plumbing and its fundamentals.

Use and care of plumber's hand tools and equipment.

Ability to prepare and check layouts and make sketches.

Ability to interpret instructions, drawings and specifications.

Manage an online computer based inventory for all plumbing fixtures, fittings and associated equipment.

Ability to prepare written reports and keep records. General knowledge of underwriters rules for plumbing.

Frequently move, install, carry and lift equipment up to 60 pounds

Frequently ascend/descend, work atop ladders to service equipment

Ability to move about freely, position self to access equipment, ability to operate machinery for repairs, ability to remain in a stationary position for periods at a time.

Exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions

Ability to form perception when measuring and installing parts and equipment

Motor coordination with eyes and fingers when using hand tools

Ability to perform routine tasks repeatedly to the satisfaction of immediate supervisor

Ability to work as a member or a team

Must be courteous and able to deal effectively with the various publics that use the facility

Must be cooperative, congenial and service-oriented

Ability to handle a variety of changing duties resulting from the complexities of plumbing apparatus and equipment

Ability to work within limits and standards set by building codes and blueprints

Capable of working under emergency conditions

Ability to follow directions as given by the Director of Facilities

Ability to follow through to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision

Ability to schedule time to meet deadlines

Numerical ability is needed to compute arithmetic calculations in testing and installing plumping and to estimate materials
