GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to students developing as mature, able and responsible men and women. Teaches content information and skills in the following areas: Practicing safety in the workplace, using tools and materials, solving mathematical problems related to electricity, applying basic electrical theory, navigating the National Electrical Code (NEC) book, selecting and installing conductors, identifying and installing conduit and raceways, examining lighting, communication, and power systems, identifying and installing panelboards and switchboards, identifying and installing grounding systems, interpreting blueprints and specifications, installing and maintaining motors and drives, motor controls and programmable logic controllers, describing generators and power supplies, installing transformers, career basics for the electricity field, examining all aspects of the electrical industry. Responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating instruction based upon specific goals and objectives established by Hanover County Public Schools and Virginia Standards of Learning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Demonstrates mastery of content area;
• Prepares daily instruction and activities using the division's curriculum to assigned classes and shows evidence of preparation upon request of the supervisors;
• Assesses students' learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group/individual needs;
• Develops summative tests of students' learning and uses results for further student instruction, grading, and placement;
• Develops and maintains a favorable psychological and physical environment that is conducive to effective learning;
• Maintains order and encourages students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior within the classroom setting in accordance with division guidelines regarding pupil behavior management.
• Selects and utilizes materials and resources appropriate to the students' instructional levels;
• Organizes learning activities to achieve specific concepts;
• Attends and participates in district and school level in-service training programs, faculty and department meetings;
• Establishes friendly and cooperative relationships between the home and the school;
• Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relations with others;
• Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence;
• Respects the home responsibility of parents for their children;
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities;
• Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations;
• Performs other duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with the school division's policies and practices.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to acquire and apply concepts, principles and methodologies of instruction, learning theory and teaching methodologies. Knowledge of current residential and industrial electrical practices, tools, equipment, and techniques. Knowledge of local building and fire codes. Knowledge of computers and mathematical computations related to electrical system design and installation. Ability to develop instructional goals for students. Ability to prepare and monitor a budget. Ability to provide work direction to others. Ability to collaborate with other instructional personnel, construction industry personnel and the school's administration. Ability to communicate instructional goals to others effectively, both orally and in writing. Possess skills in decision-making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, and planning.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

The candidate is required to have a current certified professional license or Journeyman's license and at least two years of successful full-time (or the equivalent occupational) experience within the past 5 years. A Technical Professional License, or the qualifications to be eligible for a Technical Professional License, is required for this position.

WORK SCHEDULE: 11M- 7.25 hrs.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and arms to find, reach, handle, and operate machinery and equipment; the individual is also required to talk and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, push, pull, carry, bend, stoop, and kneel; must be able to lift and or move up to 100 pounds; with or without assistance. Work is typically performed in a school setting including; classroom, gym, cafeteria, auditorium and recreational areas. Frequent walking and standing is required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be required. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular instruction to special needs children may be necessary. Daily personal and close contact with students to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required. Regular contact with other staff members and parents is required. Frequent contact with parents by phone, email, and in person as necessary.
