    POSITION SUMMARY:

    This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This role focuses on creating new programs with emphasis on generating revenue, while managing the supervision of wellness staff.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    • Recruit, hire, train and supervise wellness employees.
    • Provide support to Wellness Center Attendants and Group Exercise Instructors.
    • Assist with scheduling staff according to budgetary constraints of fitness programs to include weekend coverage.
    • Review, coach, and evaluate wellness employees based upon qualifications, performance, and class attendance.
    • Createnew and innovative fee-based programs with a focus on health and fitness for youth, adults, seniors, and families.
    • Manage scheduling and supervision of the gymnasium.
    • Engage and support members in their health and wellness experience.
    • Create community partnerships to support membership growth and retention.
    • Work in conjunction with the Senior Director team to create relationships with local organizations/corporations to support wellness in the workplace, as well as identifying wellness programming outside of the Y facility.
    • Work closely with Member Engagement, Aquatics, and Family Programming to identify programming opportunities for family connections.
    • Connect with YUSA to bring in programming opportunities for our Y.
    • Assist with managing member or participant complaints.
    • Provide feedback regarding equipment safety inspection.
    • Perform routine walk-through of the Wellness Center, Gymnasium, and locker rooms to ensure cleanliness, safety, and sanitation.
    • Assist with the development of policies and procedures pertaining to wellness center operations.
    • Ensure all health and wellness equipment is inspected for safety and in proper working conditions.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor's degree in health science, fitness, physical education, nutrition or similar field.
    • At least 1-2 years of management experience
    • Ability to obtain certification in fitness from a nationally recognized organization (ACE, NCSA, AFAA, ACSM, etc.).
    • Experience with fitness equipment usage procedures and maintenance.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
    • Experience using database systems, Daxko and MindBody preferred.
    • Ability to provide excellent member engagement, listen, be attentive, problem solve quickly efficiently and be fair.
    • A team player with strong motivation and initiative.
    • Ability to work within a diverse population of employees and members.
    WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen.
    • Ability to walk, use hands to finger, hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.
    • Ability to perform safe fitness techniques including proper bending, lifting, squatting, running, jumping, and walking.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
    • Safe use of fitness equipment.
    • Ability to be on feet coaching and instructing members and instructors for the entirety of the training.
    • Must be able to demonstrate all exercises including fitness balls, medicine balls, dumbbells, barbells, etc.
    Compensation: $50, $60,000.00 per year
