Under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist and according to policies and procedures, assists pharmacists in filling prescriptions and preparing IV admixtures by interpreting, transcribing, and preparing medication(s) for dispensing.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 3-6 months of experience and/or training in the hospital or elsewhere required.
If not previously trained, a 3-month formal training in pharmacy procedures is required.Medical terminology course preferred.
Successful completion of Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Exam (PTCB) prior to hire.
Must be licensed in the State of Michigan as a pharmacy technician
Students enrolled in an accredited school of pharmacy with a valid pharmacy intern license are not required to have the Pharmacy Technician Certification;
but the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Exam (PTCB) is required within one year after the date of hire.
Work which produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g., interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time, the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT between 40 and 70 percent of the time.
Involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (i.e., 20 pounds or less) and assisting with heavier tasks such as assisting in lifting and moving patients.
Minor straining or fatiguing positions must be assumed, and some fatiguing physical motions are required.Level I competencies:
