    CAREER DESCRIPTION

    Occupational Therapist II

    In addition to performance-based merit increases, this position is scheduled to receive salary range increases on the following dates:

    Effective June 28, % increase

    Effective June 27, % increase

    Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.

    ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION: Occupational Therapist II's who are Board Certified in Pediatric Specialist shall receive, in addition to his or her salary, the equivalent of three hundred fourteen dollars ($314) monthly (approximately one hundred forty-five dollars ($145) bi-weekly).

    This recruitment will establish an open eligible list and will be used to fill current and future Occupational Therapist II positions within the Health Care Agency. This eligible list may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications throughout the County of Orange.

Under the leadership of the Agency Director, a dynamic executive team with an organizational structure comprised of five (5) service areas - Strategy and Special Projects, Behavioral Health Services, Correctional Health Services, Medical Health Services and Public Health Services - is committed to meeting the health needs of the diverse Orange County community.

    THE OPPORTUNITY:

    The California Children's Services (CCS), Medical Therapy Program (MTP) is seeking experienced Occupational Therapists to provide medically necessary physical and occupational therapy services in Medical Therapy Units (MTU) located in public school settings.

    Responsibilities of the position will include but are not limited to:
    • Administers therapeutic evaluation and complete written reports electronically
    • Provides treatment for children from birth to 21 years of age who have neurological, neuromuscular, and/or complex orthopedic conditions
    • Works closely with the children and their families to promote maximum function and development
    • Performs treatment in a center based program
    • Attends IEP's (Individualized Education Program)
    • Conducts consultation in the home and school settings
    • Completes daily documentation regarding treatment sessions
    • Works collaboratively with other team members to assure that children and their families are provided with appropriate Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and training to maximize the child's function
    Occupational Therapist II works a 4/10 schedule with four 10-hour workdays and one weekday off. The weekday that is off is determined by the Medical Therapy Unit and program's needs. Work schedule may change to meet CCS department needs.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES:The ideal candidate will possess one (1) or more years of full-time pediatric experience as an Occupational Therapist in a program for physically disabled children. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate the following:

    Professional & Technical Expertise
    • Knowledge of the principles and methods of occupational therapy and skill in administering occupational therapy
    • Keep up to date with current research and clinical treatment approaches in the diagnosis served by the CCS Medical Therapy Program
    • Knowledge of skeletal anatomy, kinesiology, neurology, range of motion, muscle testing procedures, and basic pathology involved in neuromuscular and/or orthopedic handicaps
    • Knowledge of scope of occupational therapy practice and current treatment models/frames of reference for treatment of children with physical disabilities
    • Understanding of the psychological impacts of chronic disability on the child throughout various stages of development and the social and psychological imparts on the family
    • Knowledge of construction and or/use of adaptive equipment and splints/orthoses
    • Use appropriate durable medical equipment that meets the medical, functional and safety needs of the child
    • Knowledge of HIPAA privacy and security rules and regulations
    • Effectively design and implement an occupational therapy program that best meets the needs of the child and their family within the context of the environment and community the child functions within
    • Proficient in using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
    Interpersonal Savvy l Handling Stress
    • Interacting with families in an emotionally supportive and therapeutic manner
    • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationship with staff, colleagues, physicians, outside agencies, county personnel, and the general public
    Communication l Self-Management
    • Participating in assessment activities as a member of multidisciplinary team
    • Keeping accurate records for assigned caseload
    • Maintaining regular communication with supervisor regarding caseload
    • Demonstrating excellent written and verbal communications skills

    RECRUITMENT PROCESS

    Eligible List: Once the assessment has been completed, HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
