    Function

    The Accreditation Manager is responsible for overseeing all accreditations obtained by the office.
    Performs duties under the direct supervision of the Director of Professional Standards & Training and is accountable for use of delegated authority.
    Pursuant to § of the Code of Virginia incumbent is appointed at-will and serves at the pleasure of the Sheriff. This position is exempt.
    Examples of Work
    • Demonstrates positive attitude and progressive actions through the display of professionalism, courtesy and appropriate tact and discretion in all interactions with other employees and with the public.
    • Maintains a uniform system of management for standards compliance documents.
    • Coordinates audits with the appropriate agencies to include mock audits.
    • Coordinates compliance meeting.
    • Maintains control of Hampton Sherriff's Office's forms, places orders, and distributes upon receipt.
    • Maintains Records Detention Schedule (destroys files as required by schedule).
    • Reviews accreditation updates and ensures they are disseminated to appropriate sections.
    • Able to interpret accreditation standards as required to maintain compliance and recommends compliance changes.
    • Conducts assessments to ensure the department remains in compliance with all accreditation requirement prior to an assessment, audit, inspection, or survey.
    • Reviews and prepares all annual accreditation reports as required, and submits in a timely manner to appropriate agencies.
    • Attends required agency meetings.
    • Attends all required accreditation training to maintain certification.
    • Participates in training sessions and programs as required.
    • Reviews new laws, Attorney General Opinions, and court decisions and condenses as necessary for informing personnel.
    • Responsible for conducting vehicle inspections and reporting deficiencies.
    • Adheres to all policies, procedures, guidelines and directives of the office on an ongoing basis, reviews and attends Policy Review Meetings to ensure policies and accreditation aligns.
    • Be dependable and meet acceptable attendance requirements at all times.
    • Protects confidential information by preventing unauthorized release, both verbal and/or writing.
    • Disseminates information as it is given by the Department's Administration.
    • Completes the Job Performance Evaluations on employees required by policy.
    • When applicable, commend and/or follow disciplinary actions for all employees.
    • Follows all Federal, State and Local laws.
    • Performs any other tasks as required.

    • Must possess a thorough knowledge of Sheriff's Office policies and procedures, as well as law enforcement methods and procedures.

    • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
      Should possess any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in the criminal justice field penology, social science, administrative or any related field.

    PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS

    Must have the capability to hear, speak and see to communicate with the general public. Physical exertion may be required to climb stairs, bend, twist, reach, crawl through tight spaces, kneel in confined areas; sit for prolonged periods of time; move/push/pull or lift heavy objects exceeding 50 pounds. Subject to 24-hour call back for emergencies. Requires annual physical assessment.

    All staff members are required to utilize their Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on the job.
