    Qualifications/Requirements:

    Education and Certification:

  • Associate's degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant program from an accredited institution.
  • Successful completion of the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) examination to become a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.
  • Clinical Experience:

  • Prior experience as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, preferably in a skilled nursing facility or similar setting.
  • Experience in geriatric care, addressing functional limitations, cognitive impairments, and rehabilitation needs.
  • Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficiency in implementing treatment plans developed by Occupational Therapists to address patients' goals and promote functional independence.
  • Ability to perform therapeutic activities and exercises to improve patients' strength, coordination, and motor skills.
  • Understanding of adaptive equipment and assistive devices to enhance patients' independence in daily activities.
  • Knowledge of cognitive rehabilitation techniques and strategies to support individuals with cognitive impairments.
  • Familiarity with environmental modifications and recommendations to improve patients' home or living environments.
  • Ability to provide guidance and training to patients, family members, and caregivers regarding home exercises and strategies for functional improvement.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with patients, their families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Empathy and patience to work with individuals who may have physical or cognitive challenges.
  • A collaborative approach to working with other healthcare professionals, such as Occupational Therapists, nurses, speech-language pathologists, and physical therapists.
  • Compliance and Documentation:

  • Adherence to legal, ethical, and regulatory guidelines for Occupational Therapy Assistant practice.
  • Competence in maintaining accurate and timely documentation of treatment sessions, progress notes, and relevant patient information.
  • Continuing Education:

  • Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development and continuing education activities to stay updated with advancements in the field.
  • Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, sit, and move around for extended periods to assist patients during therapy sessions.
  • Physical dexterity to facilitate therapeutic activities, assist with transfers, and use equipment.
  • Capacity to lift and position patients as needed.
