    POSITION SUMMARY The Clinical Perfusionist is a skilled member of the health care team who is qualified by academic and clinical training to provide patient perfusion services to support cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) during heart surgery, ECMO support, VAD support and cell saver procedures.

    The Perfusionist is under the direct and indirect supervision of the Cardiac or attending physician. The Cardiac Surgeon or Supervising physician will hold ultimate clinical responsibility for Supervision of the Clinical Perfusionist.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Licenses and Certifications Required Board eligible or certified (recertified) by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion, Inc.

    BLS certification required within orientation period.

    Educational Requirements Graduate of a Cardiovascular Perfusion Training Program accredited by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion or admitted to the examination process before April 15, 1981, as evidenced by licensure.

    Experience Requirements None Special Skills or Training Requirements Applicant must have completed an orientation to the policies and procedures that cover the clinical areas in which he/she works.

    Ability to adapt and thrive in high stress environment. Basic computer skills are essential. Proven self-starter who works well independently and as part of the OR team. Must be an effective problem solver and have excellent verbal/written communication skills. Proactive in thinking and able to troubleshoot effectively in an emergent situation. Must be able to work on call and abide by the facility#s policies for response time. Reviews medical records to select equipment according to patient requirements relevant to the procedure.
