- Technical support for Sales/Marketing as needed.
- Technical lead in product development in one or more emerging markets. The R&D Engineer IV is expected to develop a technical plan, execute the plan with help from lab technicians and other colleagues, maintain a record of the progress in a timely fashion, focusing on project objectives with minimal supervision. Will require technical direction/oversight of lab personnel to achieve objectives.
- Advance the company's expertise in processing activated carbon, beyond current technology. Evaluate new raw materials and thermal processing technology at both lab and plant scale. A 'hands-on' approach is expected to drive all projects to completion at both lab and plant. Must be responsible for maintaining strong collaboration and communication among personnel of various backgrounds and education. Full and timely reporting of results is a must, including formal update presentations for major projects.
- Technical responsibility or support for other R&D and manufacturing projects, as needed. The position will entail lab work and/or field work in a plant (4-8 times annually, multiple days per trip), dependent on project needs.
- Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) or equivalent from four-year college or technical school is required (Chemistry or equivalent field). A Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) is preferred.
- 3-5 years' experience in lab-scale chemical treatment and analysis is required.
- 5-7 years' hands-on practical experience in field trials of new processes -knowledge of carbon and chemistry fundamentals, techniques, test methods is required.
- 7-10 years' industrial R&D experience demonstrated creative skills (patents, technical leadership); statistical analysis is required.
- Experience with activated carbon and familiarity with economic/business analyses is preferred.

Travel: 15-25% travel divided between plant trials and sales support
The R&D Engineer IV will serve as the technical lead in product/process development in on or more emerging markets. In addition, they will support product R&D efforts in other active development areas. The R&D Engineer IV must be able to rapidly gain an understanding of technology through both internal experts and literature/patent searches, and should subsequently be able to generate new products, processes, and applications. The R&D Engineer IV will work directly with customers, as needed. Also required is flexibility and cooperation in working in teams and the ability to run simultaneous projects at various stages of completion, while dealing with frequent changes in priorities in a fast-paced R&D environment.
