    At SARGENT, we are seeking a motivated Safety Intern to assist in various safety and compliance initiatives within our organization. The selected candidate will gain valuable hands-on experience in safety database management, hazardous energy control procedures while conducting various assessments. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to work closely with experienced professionals, develop practical skills, and contribute to enhancing safety measures throughout our manufacturing facility.

    This position will sit onsite in New Haven, CT from the end of May to mid-August fulltime.

    What you will be doing

    Safety Database Management:

    Identify all chemical materials within the plant and compile safety data sheets.

    Create and maintain a centralized spreadsheet to manage labeling and safety information.

    Collaborate with different departments to collect electronic copies of safety data sheets.

    Retrieve and organize information from the database related to labeling, date management, and environmental concerns.

    Assist in the creation of binders and index sheets for the division.

    Hazardous Energy Control (LOTO) Procedures:

    Review and analyze the existing LOTO program, ensuring compliance with Control of Hazardous Energy requirements.

    Provide training on Brady LOTOPro software and procedure writing to relevant personnel.

    Identify equipment requiring control procedures and develop machine specific LOTO procedures.

    Assist in the implementation and posting of LOTO procedures throughout the facility.

    Noise Level Assessment:

    Conduct noise level measurements throughout the facility using specialized equipment.

    Train on the proper use of noise meters and ensure proficiency in their operation.

    Prepare a facility map indicating sample points for noise level assessment, either electronically or in paper format.

    Review criteria for capturing and documenting noise level data during sampling activities.

    What we are looking for

    Must be working towards a degreed program in the field of Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, etc.), Occupational Health & Safety, or Environmental Health & Safety.

    Lead with the ability to consolidate information into a cohesive and understandable format for review for use in project and management decision making.

    Strong analytical and data management skills and ability to understand production and engineering business processes.

    Proficiency with Microsoft Office for Windows (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel) is required.
