    Position Overview
    Shaw Industries is seeking an Automation Engineer for our Port Wentworth, GA location.

    This role provides leadership in analyzing Logistics automation & process control technology, architecture requirements and designs, configures, deploys, and supports PLC-based process control systems to fulfill these requirements.

    The role is directly responsible for forming and maintaining professional relationships with their business partners. Support responsibilities will include upgrading of existing systems, on-going enhancements, and troubleshooting in a real-time operations environment. Qualified applicants will have demonstrated system development and project management skills.
    The first 4-6 months requires working from our North Georgia facilities 75% of time.

    After, the position will be based out of Savannah and require travel to other sites approximately 15% of the time.

    Responsibilities

    • Idea generation of automation-based process improvements.
    • Manage projects that are concurrently deployed across the Logistics Division.
    • Coordinate project planning and deployment actions across multiple groups and areas of responsibilities.
    • Manage relationships with Corporate Engineering, Division and Facility Leadership, customers and third-party suppliers.
    • Responsible for deciding control methodologies, architectures, and equipment selection on automation & control projects.
    • Perform cost vs. benefit analysis of features with regards to manpower and equipment costs.
    • Assign tasks to Technicians and or operators.
    • Work with the Plant Manager and Integration to continually manage process, equipment, and methodology standards through out the company.
    • Design and program automation solutions based on Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens PLC platform
    • Design and configure Ignition (Human Machine Interface) systems
    • Participate in the development of control system projects including formulating objectives, defining functional requirements and specifications, obtaining quotes, estimating man-hours, generating bid packages, etc.
    • Design, set up, and conduct control system staging prior to deployment
    • Manage contractors and technical resources
    • Resolve design gap issues at time of deployment
    Qualifications

    • Minimum of 5 years' experience in advanced Allen-Bradley's Logix 5000 and/or Siemens Step 7 and Step 5 programming
    • Engineering Degree and/or 5 yrs experience in system developmentand project management
    • Working knowledge of Yaskawa robots. (MLX preferred)
    • Working knowledge of vision systems.
    • Working knowledge of Ignition (one or more years of experience desired)
    • Solid understanding and exposure to control system and computer networks
    • Solid understanding of the relationship between control systems and distribution processes, product quality, and process continuity
    • Working knowledge of TCP/IP desired
    • Strong hardware and networking troubleshooting skills
    • Strong oral and written communications skills
    • Ability to communicate technical details clearly to all levels, i.e. subordinates, supervisors, and management
    • Effective documentation and organizational skills
    • Ability to transfer 50 lbs of equipment to and from cart
    • Able to remain on feet for extended periods during deployment
    • Able to maneuver in tight spaces to examine equipment, wiring, etc.
