- Ophthalmologists manage eye conditions including cataract, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy.
- Diagnose and treat all eye and visual system problems.
- Document into CPRS in a timely manner, participate in Process Improvement/Quality Assurance projects and participate in bi-annual Medical Staff activity including committee participation.
- General oversight of the operations of the Ophthalmology Clinic including but not limited to provide providing efficient patient management, supervision of Ophthalmology residents and other administrative activity.
- Provide direct patient care to include, but are not limited to: history and physicals, medication management, evaluation of diagnostic tests and treatment planning, surgery, and clinical reminder completion as applicable.
- Document all medical information in an electronic medical record.
- Document into CPRS in a timely manner, participate in Process Improvement/Quality Assurance projects and participate in bi-annual Medical Staff activity including committee participation.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
Duties
**This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCMENT and will remain open until September 30, 2024. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be May 7, 2024 with subsequent cut-off dates every 2 weeks. Ophthalmologists are trained physicians with significant experience in the field of Ophthalmology. They provide both clinical and administrative Ophthalmology services at the VA Northern California Health Care System (VA NCHCS). Ophthalmologists are MD physicians who have completed four years of medical school followed by an internship and a three-year ophthalmology residency, training in all aspects (basic, intermediate and advanced) of eye care. Many VHA ophthalmologists undergo additional years of training, including one or two year fellowships in glaucoma, retinal and vitreous diseases, cornea and external diseases, uveitis (inflammation), neuro-ophthalmology, orbit (eye socket) and oculoplastic surgery, or strabismus (eye muscle) surgery, which allows them to bring specialized expertise to our Veterans.
The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Clinical:
