- Implement costume designs for faculty, student, and guest designers, as well as costume coordination for dance concerts if necessary.
- Hire, train, and supervise student employees.
- Attend weekly production meetings and dress rehearsals for each production.
- Oversee costume budgets and ensure designs align with available resources.
- Purchase supplies and materials, providing necessary documentation to the Purchasing department.
- Attend and provide direction for all costume load ins and strikes for productions.
- Schedule and ensure completion of all measurements and attend all costume fittings.
- Coordinate construction, rentals, shopping, and alterations for productions. Including patterning and overseeing creation of built costumes for productions.
- Create a build calendar so that costumes are completed in a timely fashion.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the costume shop, making recommendations for technology upgrades.
- Ensure a safe, educational working environment for all involved.
- Manage costume stock and coordinate outside rentals.
- Assist Costume Designer with pulling costumes from costume stock and oversee re-stocking of costumes following rentals and productions.
- Coordinate and facilitate student wardrobe crews for Mitchell Hall Productions including Theatre, Music Theatre, Opera, Dance, and the UCO Broadway Tonight series.
- Coordinate with designers to ensure completion of paperwork necessary for wardrobe crews.
- Work schedule includes days and occasional evenings and weekends.
- Other duties as assigned.

Position Overview & Job Duties:
The Costume Shop Manager implements costume designs, trains, and oversees student shop workers, and coordinates costume-related activities at Mitchell Hall Theatre within the college of Fine Arts and Design. This role involves collaborating with designers, managing budgets, purchasing, or requisitioning costumes and supplies, and ensuring timely completion of costume construction and alterations. The Costume Shop Manager is a member of the University Productions staff and collaborates with University Productions staff and the College of Fine Arts Faculty. Works collaboratively with the faculty Costume Designer and Resident Costume Designer, as well as other representatives from the College of Fine Arts and Design, to create costumes for all Mitchell Hall Theatre productions and oversee costume stock and rentals.
Qualifications/Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree in job related field plus 5+ years of work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires work experience with leading, planning, including program development and innovation, program prioritization, and assessment. Appropriate professional accomplishments and credentials.
Qualifications/Experience Preferred:
Professional experience in theatrical costume preparation and construction. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Strong patterning and clothing construction skills. Proficiency in operating sewing machines and sewing techniques. Familiarity with hair/makeup and wig styling. Knowledge of costume technology, including draping, drafting, and fabric dyeing. Positive attitude and strong collaboration skills. Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and adapt to production schedules. Problem-solving ability and willingness to explore new materials and methods. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Knowledge of safety practices for costume equipment and tools.
