- Manage the annual ESG reporting process, to include agency management, content and data collection, editing, and reviews.
- Identify and drive necessary improvements in data collection to enable disclosure alignment with appropriate standards and frameworks, such as SASB, TCFD, and GRI.
- Collaborate with internal subject matter experts across the organization to develop and implement ESG strategies, initiatives, objectives, key performance metrics, and reporting content; leverage existing programs and identify new opportunities to expand or improve.
- Analyze reports and respond to questionnaires from ESG research firms and rating agencies, including MSCI, ISS, Sustainalytics, and Carbon Disclosure Project; identify opportunities to correct inaccuracies and gaps where performance can be improved.
- Collaborate with the investor relations team to engage with shareholders and respond to queries relating to ESG matters.
- Advocate for the company on ESG-related matters and communicate with external stakeholders about the company's ESG efforts.
- Benchmark ESG performance and reporting against peers and industry best practice; recommend opportunities for improvement.
- Monitor emerging ESG trends, regulation, and legislation that impact the company; develop insights and recommendations for the Board and the ESG Executive Oversight Council to evolve Cal Water's ESG program to meet shifting stakeholder expectations, enhance Cal Water's reputation, and mitigate risk.
- Support the Board, ESG Executive Oversight Council, and ESG Topic Owners to ensure accountability for and visibility of ESG topics; foster broad employee engagement in Cal Water's ESG strategy.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 5+ years in an ESG-related role; graduate degree and/or professional certification are preferred.
- Proven expertise in ESG reporting standards, requirements, and common frameworks (including SASB, TCFD, and GRI).
- Experience with ESG rating and ranking agencies.
- Proven ability to manage projects; strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Valid California Driver's License.

Summary:The ESG Manager will play a key role in supporting Cal Water's Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) program by overseeing and advancing our ESG strategy, leading ESG reporting, advocating on ESG issues, and driving continued improvement and alignment with evolving reporting frameworks, standards, regulations, and best practices. The ESG Manager reports to the Chief Sustainability Officer and is located in San Jose, CA.
