    Job Title: Research Associate- Chemistry and Biomolecular Science

    FLSA Status: Exempt

    Department: Chemistry and Biomolecular Science

    Title of Manager/Supervisor: Professor

    Number of Employees Reporting to this Position: 0

    Range: $50,000- $55,000 based on experience

    Position Summary: Conduct research related to the assigned research project including planning, data collection, data analysis, writing and submitting project reports and publications.

    General Purpose: Conduct research under funded project

    Position Responsibilities:

    • Performs experimental work as part of the assigned project
    • Makes detailed observations, analyses data and interprets results
    • Prepares activity reports and contributes to writing papers which summarize research findings for peer-reviewed journals
    • Provides effective mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students
    • Complies with any requirements of the awarding authority
    • Keeps updated on related subjects and professional issues, in particular, developments in the specific subject area
    • Present findings in peer-reviewed articles and scientific and technical meetings
    • Participate in grant writing activities and additional research opportunities

    Essential Skills:

    • Fundamental knowledge and basic techniques in electrochemistry, material science and analytical chemistry.
    • Documented excellent record of accomplishment of scholarly publications in the fields of sensing, electroanalytical chemistry and material science.
    • Experimental skills and theoretical/practical knowledge in electrochemistry and the development of sensing systems required;
    • Knowledge with material characterization and analytical method development or equivalent.
    • Strong written communication and presentation skills.
    • Personal characteristics such as effective team player, dependability, integrity, flexibility, adaptability, enthusiasm, ability to take initiative.
    • The ability to work effectively with team members from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.

    Education:

    Minimal Qualifications:
    PhD degree in Analytical Chemistry or Material Science with demonstrated experience in biosensors, electroanalytical chemistry, analytical and environmental chemistry.

    Experience:

    Minimal Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated ability to perform electrochemical experiments and characterize materials systems;
    • 2 years' work experience in an analytical chemistry/electrochemistry/material science lab;
    • Strong oral and written communication skills;
    • Supervision/mentoring skills for graduate and undergraduate students.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Strong record of scientific publications and independent research proposals;
    • Background in sensors, electrochemistry and material/colloid science;
    • Prior experience with mentoring undergraduates and graduate students
    • At least 5 years' experience in an analytical/material science lab;
    • Strong experience with the study of nanomaterial systems, especially functional metal and metal oxides;
