    SUMMARY:

    To maintain and repair district vehicles as specified by Original Equipment Manufactures (OEM), Colorado Department of Education (CDE) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations with special regard to safety and efficiency.

    Inspection of vehicles for compliance to regulations, safety guidelines, mechanical performance and efficient operation.

    Knowledge of practices, procedures and the ability to perform or utilize them in the repair and maintenance of district vehicles.

    Knowledge and ability to use properly all tools, equipment, measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele.


    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Knowledge/ability to diagnose and repair diesel and gasoline engines
    2. Knowledge/ability to perform diesel tune ups including fuel pump, Injector diagnosis & replacement. Knowledge/ability to set overhead (valves).
    3. Knowledge/ability to diagnose and repair of chassis and body electrical, starters and charging systems.
    4.

    Knowledge/ability to repair drive train systems, 4wd systems, differentials, U-joints, mount & dismount, balance various sizes & types of tires and wheels.

    5. Knowledge/ability to diagnose and repair light and heavy duty suspension and steering systems.
    6. Knowledge/ability to diagnose and repair heating, cooling systems and auxiliary heating systems (webasto) on all types of vehicles.
    7. Knowledge/ability to diagnose, repair and inspect hydraulic, ABS and air brake systems.
    8. Knowledge/ability to perform tune ups on gas engines.
    9. Knowledge/ability to operate a Scan tool, and diagnostic software
    10. Knowledge/ability in computer systems, RTA Fleet software system or equivalent.
    11. Knowledge/ability to inspect, repair, maintain special need wheelchair lifts.
    12. Any other duties or assignments as directed.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High school graduate or equivalent
    2. Must obtain/retain State Opacity License
    3. Obtain/retain the Colorado Dept. of Education Technicians Inspectors License
    4. Must meet insurability requirements of the Colorado Self Insurance Pool system
    5. Complete District, State, Federal paperwork and complete any record keeping as needed
    6. Knowledge/ability to diagnosis and repair air conditioning systems.

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES,


    AND REGISTRATIONS:
    Must obtain/retain a Commercial Drivers License, "Class B"

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    :

    Three (3) or more year's of diesel or bus mechanic experience.

    PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS/


    WORK ENVIRONMENT:
    Minimum lifting ability of 40 lbs.

    This position could be re-classified as Mechanic I or Mechanic III depending upon the hired individual's mechanical experience.
